About the Job

Are you a skilled Data Engineer / Software Developer with a passion for working with cutting-edge technologies – both on-premise and in the cloud? Join us at Allianz Technology and play a key role in designing and maintaining our modernized Data Warehouse (DWH) as well as the Allianz Data Platform Technical Services (ADPTS) on Microsoft Azure.

As part of a multi-year program, the Data Warehouse of Allianz has been expanded and modernized. Professional extensions and integrations within the ecosystem are now taking place in the context of agile development. In parallel, the transformation towards Azure Cloud – using Databricks, (maybe Azure Fabric), and Azure SQL – is actively on the agenda.

In this exciting position, you will work across both Oracle DWH (supposed to be decommissioned) and Azure Cloud environments, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure the optimal performance and seamless integration of our data solutions. If you are eager to contribute to innovative data engineering at a leading global company, we invite you to apply and become part of our forward-thinking team!

What you do

  • Analyze, design and implement data solutions using Azure, Databricks, (Azure Fabric) and SQL technologies. Develop and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines for robust data integration and transformation.
  • Optimize data processing to ensure high performance and scalability. Ensure data quality and fulfill non-functional requirements such as performance, data protection, IT security, and usability.
  • Ensure deep integration with Azure and Microsoft SaaS services such as Power BI.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams – including solution designers, product owners, and subject matter experts – to define, concept and implement best practices for data architecture and engineering.
  • Manage daily operations and resolve assigned incidents.
  • Create clear, accurate, and clean documentation of implemented requirements.
  • Continuously explore and implement new technologies and methodologies to improve data processing and analytics.

What you bring

  • At least 2–5 years of experience in data engineering / development with extensive knowledge in data modeling, ETL tools, and data integration technologies.
  • Experience with Azure Cloud, Databricks, and Azure Fabric, including architecture, storage structures, security mechanisms, and performance optimization.
  • Proficiency in SQL (PL/SQL), Unix, and relevant programming languages. Familiarity with Power BI and other Microsoft SaaS solutions. Experience in refactoring existing data models and data layers.
  • Knowledge of agile development methodologies, with excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills; ability to work effectively in an agile environment. Fluency in English – mandatory; German is a plus.
  • Ability to work 80–100% and at least three days onsite, two days remote (based on 100% pensum).
  • SAS knowledge is an advantage; insurance industry experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with AI technologies and GenAI platforms is a strong advantage.

What we offer

  • We offer a hybrid work model which recognizes the value of striking a balance between in-person collaboration and remote working incl. up to 25 days per year working from abroad.
  • We believe in rewarding performance and our compensation and benefits package includes a company bonus scheme, pension, employee shares program and multiple employee discounts (details vary by location).
  • From career development and digital learning programs to international career mobility, we offer lifelong learning for our employees worldwide and an environment where innovation, delivery and empowerment are fostered.
  • Flexible working, health and wellbeing offers (including healthcare and parental leave benefits) support to balance family and career and help our people return from career breaks with experience that nothing else can teach.
