Role Description

 

Role Purpose - To provide action-based, forward looking analysis to support the business’ key objectives, putting data and analysis at the heart of business decision making and supporting a data-driven culture.  Key focus to increase profitable growth, reduce inefficiency, and optimise operations by reducing effort and operational waste and influence process and proposition design from understanding and sharing data. Commercial focus on team output with time dedicated to building capability across the team in both technical and presentational skill sets.

 

This is a hybrid role with hub office being either Bournemouth or London.

 

Salary Information.

 

Pay is based on relevant experience, skills for the role, and location. Salary is only one part of our total reward package.

 

About You

 

  • Responsible for designing, building, and optimising an effective reporting and analytical output to support business operations and senior leader decisions
  • Manage and appropriately prioritise a diverse and fast-moving work-stack of tasks, while ensuring continual progress of key work-streams feeding in to the overall commercial and data strategies of the business
  • Manage Stakeholder relationships, establish and strive to reinforce credibility within the business to influence decision-makers through clear and insightful data analysis; promote value-adding and actionable use of data
  • Support the implementation of projects and integration of new business with expert input into data requirements scoping and dependable delivery of data solutions
  • Introduce new analytical methods, visualisations, and technologies to further team capability, efficiency, and impact; drive our data product and strong identity as a centre of analytical excellence forwards
  • Support the development of junior analysts and budding data talent within the business through mentoring, coaching, and consistently role-modelling the attributes of a senior analyst

 

 

Knowledge, skills, qualifications and experience

 

  • Stakeholder management experience at all levels right up to executive/board level
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills, preferably in financial services (insurance experience particularly desirable)
  • Experienced in evaluating data and drawing conclusions from analysis, ensuring the right inferences are made in their interpretation
  • Confidence in presenting information clearly and concisely to senior stakeholders and colleagues
  • Proven ability to communicate with and influence senior leaders
  • Well-developed problem-solving ability and tenacity in overcoming obsacles and technical challenges
  • Accurate and persistent, with excellent attention to detail
  • Experienced in turning customer needs and concepts for analysis into meaningful deliveries that delivers the results required in a timely and accurate manner
  • Experienced in applying analytical thinking in a commercial context, utilising knowledge of the business, its strategy, and the broader industrial and economic context
  • Data expert with nuanced understanding of how to get from raw data to accurate and actionable insight
  • Ability to propose recommendations and solutions with credibility and confidence based on sound, factual evidence; follow the data to the truth rather than aim for validation of preconceived notions or hoped-for results

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable working independently, as part of a team, and across teams to a minimal brief

 

People Leadership

 

  • Ability to mentor and provide coaching and guidance to those with less experience and act as point of referral for other analysts
  • Ability to deputise for MI Analytics Manager
  • Strong sense of and buy-in to the culture of a team and organisation

Technical Skills

 

Essential:

 

  • Excellent data manipulation abilities through use of data manipulation languages such as SQL, R, Python
  • Excellent data manipulation and visualisation skills in Excel, PowerBI or similar tools
  • Experience in DAX and other functional laungages.
  • Statistics: able to build compelling insights using data and statistical knowhow
  • Experience of data architecture, including the Microsoft Azure Platform and associated tooling.
  • Experience of Databricks

 

Desirable:

 

  • Experience of using statistical software such as Minitab
  • Experience of coding languages such as JavaScript, HTML
  • Knowledge and experience of using machine-learning and broader data-science techniques
