Job Type:  Full-Time

Employment Type:  Permanent

Position Cluster:  Non-Executive

Role Purpose

The Capacity Manager ensures that Allianz Technology’s IT infrastructure, platforms, and services have the right amount of capacity — at the right time, at the right cost — to meet current and future business demands. This role operates across the full ITIL v4 Capacity & Performance Management practice, encompassing business capacity management (translating business forecasts into IT demand), service capacity management (ensuring end-to-end services perform within SLA parameters), and component capacity management (monitoring and optimising infrastructure components). The Capacity Manager is a critical link between business planning, service design, financial management, and technical operations, preventing both under-provisioning (outages, degraded performance) and over-provisioning (waste, unnecessary cost).

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and operate the Capacity & Performance Management practice across Allianz Technology: define policies, processes, roles, and governance in alignment with ITIL v4 and Allianz global IT standards.

  • Develop and maintain the Capacity Plan: a rolling 12–36 month forward-looking document that forecasts IT resource requirements based on business growth projections, seasonal demand patterns, and planned initiatives (new products, migrations, regulatory changes).

  • Monitor, analyse, and report on the capacity and performance of critical IT services, platforms, and infrastructure components (compute, storage, network, database, middleware, cloud resources) using enterprise monitoring tools (e.g.: Dynatrace, Datadog, Azure Monitor, Prometheus/Grafana).

  • Perform capacity modelling and trend analysis: use historical data, statistical methods, and simulation to predict future resource requirements and identify capacity bottlenecks before they impact service delivery.

  • Define and manage performance thresholds, alerting rules, and event correlation criteria to enable proactive detection and resolution of capacity-related issues.

  • Collaborate with Service Level Management to ensure capacity targets are embedded in SLAs, OLAs, and underpinning contracts; provide capacity-related input to service reviews.

  • Partner with FinOps Manager and Service Financial Management to balance capacity investment against cost efficiency: recommend optimal procurement timing, right-sizing, and resource consolidation.

  • Advise Change Enablement and Release Management on the capacity impact of proposed changes, new deployments, and infrastructure modifications; participate in CAB reviews as capacity subject matter expert.

  • Manage demand: work with business stakeholders and Demand Management to understand, anticipate, and influence demand patterns, including implementing demand shaping techniques (throttling, tiered service levels, off-peak scheduling).

  • Ensure capacity readiness for major business events (e.g., renewal seasons, regulatory reporting deadlines, product launches) through dedicated capacity stress testing and contingency planning.

  • Drive cloud capacity optimisation: auto-scaling policies, reserved capacity management, burstable instance strategies, and container orchestration tuning (Kubernetes HPA/VPA, cluster autoscaler).

  • Support continual service improvement by analysing capacity-related incidents, identifying recurring performance bottlenecks, and implementing structural improvements.

  • Produce regular capacity reports and executive dashboards for IT leadership, including resource utilisation trends, capacity risk assessments, and investment recommendations.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.

  • 5+ years of experience in IT infrastructure management, capacity planning, or performance engineering within a large enterprise environment (insurance/financial services preferred).

  • ITIL v4 Foundation certification required; ITIL Specialist (High Velocity IT or Create, Deliver & Support) or ITIL Strategist (Direct, Plan & Improve) preferred.

  • Demonstrated expertise with enterprise monitoring and capacity planning tools: Dynatrace, Datadog, AppDynamics, Prometheus/Grafana, Azure Monitor, AWS CloudWatch, or equivalent.

  • Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure (Azure preferred, AWS/GCP acceptable): compute, storage, networking, auto-scaling, container orchestration (Kubernetes), and serverless architectures.

  • Experience with capacity modelling techniques: statistical forecasting, trend analysis, simulation, and workload characterisation.

  • Working knowledge of ITIL practices adjacent to Capacity Management: Availability Management, Service Level Management, Change Enablement, Incident Management, and Problem Management.

  • Proficiency in data analysis and visualisation tools (Power BI, Tableau, Grafana, Excel advanced modelling) and scripting (Python, SQL, PowerShell) for capacity analytics.

  • Experience with performance testing methodologies and tools (JMeter, Gatling, Locust) for validating capacity assumptions.

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills; ability to translate complex technical capacity data into business-relevant recommendations for senior leadership.

  • Familiarity with FinOps principles and cost-capacity trade-off analysis is strongly preferred.

  • Fluent English required
