Role Description

 

We have a fantastic new opportunity as a Personal Lines Underwriter. This phone-based role offers the perfect gateway into the insurance industry, giving you the chance to develop valuable skills while working at the heart of broker relationships.

 

You’ll be the first point of contact for broker underwriting and technical referrals, ensuring queries are resolved quickly and effectively. You’ll play a vital role in delivering outstanding service to brokers and supporting the achievement of our Personal Lines trading objectives.

 

This is a hybrid role, which requires travel to our Chelmsford office once per week.

 

Salary Information

 

Pay: Circa £26,400. 

Pay is based on relevant experience, skills for the role, and location. Salary is only one part of our total reward package.

 

About You

 

As our Personal Lines Underwriter, you’ll: 

 

  • Respond to broker enquiries & referrals by providing underwriting decisions within agreed authority levels which support the provision of Personal Lines quotations & the underwriting of new business.
  • Respond to broker enquiries & referrals by providing underwriting decisions within agreed authority levels which support the underwriting of Personal Lines renewals & mid term adjustments.
  • Utilise insurance technical knowledge & underwriting authority so less than 1% of Personal Operations enquiries are referred to Head Office Underwriting for resolution.  
  • Engage effectively with brokers demonstrating good technical knowledge, flexibility, decision making capability & friendliness.
  • Process manual Personal Lines new & existing business accurately & error free.
  • Support the resolution of accounts queries to enable our Credit Control & Reconciliation functions  to collect premium effectively.
  • Deliver strong service performance in relation to call handling, email response, manual processing & resolution of accounts queries meeting challenging service, productivity & quality standards.
  • Comply with all applicable regulatory obligations including contract certainty, conduct risk, GDPR & DPA.
  • Pro-actively support change & process improvements to deliver improved service, increased efficiency & cost savings.

 

 

Essential skills

 

  • Excellent customer service skills with a proactive approach to building relationships externally with brokers and customers.
  • Highly organised & able to deliver high productivity.
  • Good numerical & analytical skills.

 

Desirable skills

 

  • Educated to ‘A’ Level standard, or equivalent.
  • Background in insurance. 
  • Technical underwriting knowledge within Personal Lines.
