Head of Distribution - Personal Broker

Role Description
The Head of Distribution is accountable for the performance, development and strategic direction of the broker distribution network. The role exists to optimise the performance and value of the existing broker portfolio whilst simultaneously building a pipeline of new distribution opportunities to support future profitable growth.

Key Accountabilities
Strategy & Market positioning – identify priority broker segments and strategic partners aligned to growth and profitability. Continually assessing market dynamics, competitor activity, broker consolidation and regulatory developments to inform and support the Director of Distribution’s strategic direction.
Broker and Partner Management – build deep, trusted, senior level relationships focused on mutual value and long term performance. Lead the development and execution of joint business plans with partners.
Optimisation of Existing Broker Performance – maximise the commercial performance of existing brokers through segmented targeted performance optimisation at both new business and renewal. Monitor performance at a partner, scheme and product level, driving change where needed, both in terms of written premium and loss ratio performance.
New Distribution and Driving Growth – Identify, evaluate and secure new distribution opportunities. Leading on commercial negotiations of new and existing contracts. Ensuring a forward looking pipeline of opportunities.
Commercial Ownership – own delivery of GWP, revenue and retention targets for your broker partners whilst balancing underwriting and pricing profitability. Ensure robust performance reporting, governance and decision making.
Leadership of Account Management Team – Lead and develop a team of account managers, setting clear objectives, performance standards and ensuring accountability across the teams. Build capability in relationship management, negotiation and commercial acumen.
Cross Functional Collaboration – work closely with underwriting pricing, commercial, operations and claims to deliver against strategic goals and budgets. Champion broker and partner needs internally whilst balancing commercial, operational and risk considerations.
Governance, Risk and Conduct – ensure all distribution activity complies with FCA regulation, consumer duty and internal governance frameworks. Promote high standards of conduct, fair value and positive customer outcomes across all broker relationships. Ensure appropriate oversight of broker risk and performance.
External representation and market leader – represent the business credibly in the broker market and in industry forums. Enhance our reputation as a trusted, quality personal lines insurer.
Skills & Experience
- Significant senior level experience in the UK personal lines market with a background in distribution, broker management, insurer development or partnerships.
- Proven track record of delivering profitable growth through broker or insurer development.
- Deep understanding of the personal lines market, preferably the broker market
- Demonstrated experience of optimising existing partnerships, improving performance across new business, retention and profitability metrics
- Experience in negotiating and onboarding new partnerships
- Strong commercial ownership including written premium, new business volumes, retention and profit
- Experience leading and developing senior commercial/relationship management teams
- Strong understanding of FCA regulation, consumer duty and conduct risk within insurance distribution
- Strong negotiation capability, particularly in complex commercial and partnership environments
- Data driven decision making with the ability to interpret performance, market and customer insight
- Excellent stakeholder management across pricing, underwriting, operations, commercial, change and risk functions
- Strong leadership capability including performance management, coaching and talent development
- Clear, confident communication with the ability to articulate strategy, performance and negotiation
