Role Description

Allianz Specialty have a fantastic opportunity for a Product Owner to join our family of talented people in the Transformation Change Team.

 

As Product Owner you will lead a member of the Scrum team, supporting change throughout the full development process from concept to delivery. You will evaluate all opportunities and prioritise what gets built and delivered through a clear concise backlog’s.

You will support the Business Analysis/scum team with epic creation and Business Owners with solution validation, review of epics, user stories, designs and solutions. You also support the business validation testing of the developed solution and ensure alignment with the Architecture team. testing of the developed solution and ensure alignment with the Architecture team.

 

Salary

Circa £45,000

Pay is based on relevant experience, skills for the role, and location. Salary is only one part of our total reward package.

 

Key Accountabilities

Stakeholder Management

  • Understand the technology product / application you are the product owner for and be prepared to manage stakeholder’s understanding of its functionality.
  • Good knowledge of one or more business domain. Expected to apply and develop business knowledge within the role.
  • Be prepared to regularly demo Scrum team progress with support from the team to ensure the business areas are aware of change ahead of releases.
  • Have strong communication skills working very closely with your Scrum Master and managing cross team changes with other Product Owners, Project Managers and the Release Train Engineers.

 

PI Planning

  • Prepare for the Program Increment planning by reviewing and contributing to the Product vision, roadmap and content presentations.
  • Actively engage with user story definition, provide clarifications to enable the Scrum team to create their story estimates and sequencing.
  • Work with Scrum team to determine the team PI objectives for the upcoming PI.

 

Backlog Maintenance

  • Act as the customer proxy to define and prioritise stories in the team backlog.
  • Ensure the backlog is appropriately prioritised, visible, clear and refined ahead of sprint planning.
  • Make decisions on behalf of the business on which user stories are accepted or rejected and in which sprint they will be developed, but being mindful of the need for a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) with greatest business benefit and some elements that are time driven.
  • Maintain awareness of wider Portfolios to ensure the backlog accurately reflects support of wider initiatives which may require additional resource support and require priority. This will be achieved via close collaboration with both the Product Manager and other Product Owners.

 

Scrum Team Engagement

  • Influence the Scrum team to actively engage with backlog refinement and user story writing and make yourself available to Scrum teams to answer their questions or find answers.
  • Confirm the definition of “Done” as agreed by the Scrum team is in line with your expectations and nothing is obviously missing.
  • Work closely with the Scrum Master to get early feedback on whether the team are on track to deliver to key delivery dates.
  • Align with fellow Product Owners, Business Owners and Programme Leads to ensure design, build and test cycles are aligned.

 

Decision Making

  • Sign off of all development work completed in the sprints, ensure quality of delivery and fit for purpose in line with the definition of ‘Done’.
  • Be available to the Scrum team, take responsibility for day to day decisions in the scrum team and able to think clearly on your feet to give quick concise decisions to help the team pivot and change direction rapidly when required.
  • Maintain a knowledge of future change items in a well defined backlog in order that these can be considered by the team when planning future sprints and PIs.

 

Escalation

  • Take responsibility to escalate deviations/blockers/dependencies within the domain to ensure company visions are met and delivery plans remain on track.

 

Technical Skills

  • Some technical understanding of current company system applications and business processes.  
  • Critical thinking generated by observation, experience, reflection, reasoning and communication
  • A basic understanding of the Agile methodology with experience using a number of framework e.g. Scrum, Kanban., Kanban

 

Experience

  • No previous Product Owner experience required but a good understanding of the role and what is expected as well as a willingness to learn.
  • Previous experience working in insurance or financial services.
  • Some business knowledge with a wider understanding of the Mid-Corporate business vision.
  • Previous experience of working within a digital environment.
  • Experience of changing technology and processes.
  • Good communication skills and stakeholder management.
  • Ability to work alongside and help energise a cross-functional experienced team.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Not afraid to take a risk based approach to decision making.
  • A strong team player.
