The Opportunity
Reporting to the Senior Commercial Underwriting Operations Manager, you will lead a team of technical experts responsible for underwriting property, liability, and multinational business across all commercial sectors. Additionally, supporting construction. Your role will involve strategic oversight, team leadership, and fostering key relationships to drive business growth and ensure service excellence. You will be instrumental in delivering growth targets, enhancing operational processes, and nurturing a high-performing team environment.
Key Responsibilities:

Operational Leadership: Oversee daily operations of the Large Risk and supporting Specialty underwriting team, manage an efficient workflow and processes. Develop a culture of trust and collaboration, motivating the team to deliver the company's growth strategy.

Business Case Management: Review and allocate large new business cases, coordinating with Underwriting colleagues, Sales, Pricing, and Portfolio to optimise underwriting decisions and customer outcomes.

Renewal Allocation: Assign renewal cases to underwriters based on complexity, experience, and delegated underwriting authority (DUA).

SWAT Team Coordination: Initiate cross-functional SWAT teams to address complex new business and renewal cases, facilitating meetings and maintaining communication channels.

Growth Workshops: Organise weekly workshops to identify new business growth opportunities, collaborate with Portfolio and Sales teams, and establish action plans for large risk cases.

Multinational Business Coordination: Ensure compliance with multinational service level agreements (SLAs) and represent the team in multinational meetings.

Performance Management: Conduct performance reviews, set team priorities, and provide coaching and mentoring to ensure staff development and alignment with business goals.

Quality Assurance: Implement quality measures, log errors and compliments, and report on team performance at customer quality meetings.

Customer Centricity: Collaborate with the wider Underwriting team, Sales, Portfolio, and Claims to embed customer-centric practices.

Reporting and Compliance: Deliver regular reporting, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and facilitate team meetings to maintain transparency and accountability.

Process Improvement: Inspire your team to participate in our Continuous Improvement initiative, encourage discussion and support the implementation of process improvements, represent the team at the relevant meetings to drive strategic enhancements.
Key Requirements / Skills & Experience
Essential:
-
Demonstrated ability leading teams and managing people, with a proven record of fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.

Minimum 5 years’ experience in commercial underwriting or sales.

Recognised insurance qualification (CIP, MDI, ACII, or FCII).

Experience of delivering through cross-functional teams.

Proven track record of achieving P&L related targets.
Desirable:

Knowledge of our existing commercial products, processes and pricing tools.

Strong market knowledge and broker relationships.

Familiarity with I/90 and proficiency in MS tools (Excel, Teams, PP) and Salesforce.

Demonstrated ability to meet challenging targets and deliver exceptional customer service.

Multinational exposure across all commercial sectors.
