The Opportunity 

 

As Construction Engineering, Power and Marine Manager you will lead a group of technical experts who underwrite Construction, Engineering, Power and Marine business across the wide range of industries in Ireland. The Construction, Engineering, Power and Marine Manager will report directly to the Head of Commercial Underwriting.

 

We are seeking an experienced Underwriter to both underwrite and lead broker and client engagements with Construction customers. Working proactively with Broker partners and with the support of the Allianz Customer Relationship team you will be responsible for the proactive management of a portfolio consisting of large and specialised renewals and new business opportunities that are aligned to our risk appetite.  You will also proactively collaborate with internal stakeholders in Customer (Sales), Pricing and Underwriting Teams and deliver against agreed GWP targets to support our overall growth strategy.  Ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction to our brokers and clients and technical expertise through superior underwriting is a principle objective of this role.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • In collaboration with the Head of Commercial Underwriting and the Head of Commercial Customer (Sales), develop and lead the strategy for the profitable growth of the Construction Engineering, Power and Marine books of business
  • Identify opportunities and lead the development of new product offerings and new scheme business
  • Lead existing scheme business including but not limited to Construction and inherent defects insurance
  • Lead engagements with brokers and their key clients with the support and collaboration of the Allianz Customer Relationship team to deliver on Allianz Construction Engineering, Power and Marine targets
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with the Underwriting team, other areas of the business and external stakeholders and support colleagues in the underwriting of Construction , Engineering and Power business as the need arises
  • Engage with internal stakeholders in Customer, Pricing and Portfolio management to negotiate terms and conduct detailed risk assessment and acceptance within existing Delegated Underwriting Authority (DUA) framework agreements
  • Coordinate audits for each of the schemes in line with their respective contract terms and proactively engage to ensure compliance and follow through of actions
  • Ensure risk management plans are followed through with and the recommendations are closed out satisfactorily and within the time limits stated by our Risk Surveyor(s) or survey partners
  • Establish and maintain relationships and work with partners within Allianz Group, notably Allianz Commercial and Allianz UK
  • Share knowledge and technical expertise with colleagues, contribute to personal and team technical development and lead out development of CPD programmes for internal and external stakeholders
  • Identify and implement improvements in process, proposition or service to best serve our customer base
  • Maintain and develop strong interpersonal and negotiation skills to both lead and support key client and broker engagements

 

               

Key Requirements / Skills & Experience 

 

Essential:

 

  • A minimum 5 years’ experience in underwriting Commercial Liability insurance including experience of underwriting large exposure cases (premiums over €100k) in these speciality lines
  • Demonstratable experience in Construction and Residential Inherent Defect Schemes
  • Demonstratable experience in leading and developing underwriters
  • Demonstratable experience in writing large and complex project specific construction (CAR/DSU/PL/Non-Negligence) insurance business (premiums over €100k)
  • ACII or MDI qualified
  • Experience in broker & client engagement & balancing business development with technical underwriting

 

Desirable:

 

  • A 3rd level qualification in Engineering, Construction, or Surveying related fields
  • A strong record of writing construction risks in the local market and good construction broker connections
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word and Salesforce
  • At Allianz Ireland, we are committed to staying at the forefront of technological advancements. While this role may not require specific expertise in Data Analytics or Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, having an understanding of their principles and practical uses would be advantageous.
