Role Purpose

We are looking for a highly experienced Employee Relations Manager with deep expertise in Mauritian labor law and employee relations. Reporting directly to the Head of People & Culture and serving as a member of the P&C Leadership Team, this role involves managing complex ER matters, ensuring compliance with labor laws and Allianz policies, and acting as a trusted advisor to managers and People & Culture teams. The position offers significant exposure to both local and global management, requiring the ability to balance business needs with risk management, governance, and a focus on enhancing the employee experience.

Key Responsibilities

§  Manage end-to-end employee relations (ER) cases, including grievances, disciplinary actions, misconduct investigations, performance issues, and workplace conflicts, ensuring fairness and compliance.

§  Lead and independently handle complex and sensitive ER cases, providing expert advice to managers and HR Business Partners on risks, corrective actions, and best practices.

§  Conduct investigations, hearings, and grievance meetings; prepare detailed documentation, recommendations, and case reports.

§  Ensure compliance with Mauritian labor legislation, employment regulations, and Allianz internal policies, while monitoring legal updates and assessing their impact.

§  Support organizational change initiatives (e.g., restructuring, policy changes) by providing ER and risk management expertise.

§  Review, draft, and update HR policies, procedures, employee handbooks, and other related documentation to align with legal and organizational standards.

§  Deliver training and awareness sessions on ER processes, disciplinary frameworks, grievance handling, and code of conduct to promote a culture of respect and compliance.

§  Analyze ER trends and risks, recommend preventive actions, and contribute to HR transformation, process standardization, and continuous improvement of ER frameworks.

Key Skills & Competencies

§  In-depth knowledge of Mauritian labor law, employment regulations, and best practices in employee relations.

§  Demonstrated ability to independently and thoroughly manage complex and sensitive employee relations (ER) cases, including investigations, grievances, and disciplinary actions with a calm and strategic approach.

§  High level of integrity, confidentiality, and sound judgment in handling sensitive matters. Ability to navigate diverse cultural contexts and demonstrate empathy and sensitivity in handling employee concerns.

§  Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to build trust and credibility across all levels of the organization. Strong negotiation, mediation, and conflict resolution skills to address disputes and foster positive outcomes.

§  Excellent written and verbal communication skills (French and English), with the ability to present complex information clearly and effectively.

§  Strong analytical mindset with exceptional documentation, reporting, and investigation capabilities.

§  Prior experience in a multinational or shared-services environment is highly desirable.

Qualifications & Experience

§  Bachelor’s degree in Law, Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or a related field is required; a Master’s degree is highly preferred.

§  5–8 years of progressive experience in Employee Relations, HR Compliance, and Labor Relations in Mauritius, with a proven track record of managing complex cases.

§  Experience in developing and implementing employee relations strategies aligned with organizational goals.

§  Experience in financial services, insurance, or other regulated industries is a strong advantage.

§  Familiarity with global HR policies, practices, and working within matrix organizations is preferred.

§  Familiarity with HRIS systems, case management tools, and data analytics platforms to streamline ER processes and reporting.
