Principle IT Architect / Lead IT Architect / Area Architect – Insurance (16+ years)

Role purpose

  • IT architecture custodian of an entity – Responsible and accountable for the entity-wide end-to-end IT architecture driving business goals while adhering to Allianz’s strategic architecture framework and governance.

Key responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end Area (an entity in this case) architecture — authoring and maintaining architectural documentation, patterns, and roadmaps aligned with Allianz standards and guardrails, supported by lead domain and tribe architects.
  • Chair architecture governance forums to drive timely, informed, and transparent decision-making across all Lines of Business; maintain architecture compliance transparency and manage deviations and exceptions.
  • Proactively identify, assess, and steer architectural risks with relevant stakeholders; document compliance gaps, approved deviations, and remediation actions.
  • Lead integration architecture across the full insurance and supporting domain landscape — covering core insurance systems, GL/Finance, CRM, payment, fraud detection, master data management, input/output management, document management, and data lakehouse platforms — championing API-first and event-driven patterns across internal platforms and external ecosystems.
  •  Align technology decisions with business processes across all Lines of Business — new business, underwriting, policy lifecycle, collections, renewals, claims, and financial posting — advising management, business stakeholders, and delivery teams on non-functional requirements and IT operational considerations.
  •  Guide engineering leads, development teams, and vendor partners in the consistent implementation of architecture patterns, standards, and non-functional requirements, embedding scalability, security, reliability, performance, observability, auditability, and regulatory compliance into all designs.

Qualification:

  • Bachelor in Engineering/MCA/M.sc/ M.S./ MBA in Systems, IT or Insurance or Finance

Technical:

  • 16+ years in technology, with a significant portion in senior architecture roles within large, complex insurance or financial services organizations; recognized internally as the go-to authority on integration and solution architecture.
  •  Deep expertise defining, governing, and evolving enterprise-wide integration architectures — spanning policy administration, underwriting, claims, billing, collections, renewals, customer servicing, and financial posting — across multi-LOB, multi-vendor environments.
  • Proven track record leading integration modernization programs: establishing API-first and event-driven architectural patterns, canonical data models, and reusable integration assets that scale across the enterprise.
  • Broad and credible knowledge of modern integration patterns and technologies — including API management, event streaming, and cloud-native integration services on AWS and Azure — sufficient to set direction, evaluate trade-offs, and hold engineering teams and vendors to architectural standards.
  • Demonstrated experience governing integration architecture across the full supporting domain landscape: GL/Finance, CRM, payment, fraud and screening systems, master data management, input/output management, document management, and data lakehouse platforms.
  • Strong non-functional architecture sensibility: able to set and enforce architectural requirements for security, resilience, performance, observability, and regulatory compliance, and translate them into engineering standards that delivery teams can execute against.
  • Experienced operationalizing architectural governance in a federated, global delivery model — standards setting, ADR processes, deviation management, compliance assurance — without becoming a bottleneck to agile delivery.
  • Able to produce and maintain authoritative architectural artefacts — integration blueprints, event models, interface contracts, sequence diagrams, API specifications, and ADRs — and hold others to the same standard.
  •  Familiarity with GenAI/LLM tooling as a lever for engineering quality, design validation, and developer productivity is advantageous; experience with agentic patterns and MCP is a bonus.
  • AI Expertise would be a plus.
