Role Description

 

Join the Commercial Lines Legal team at Allianz as a Legal Counsel, where you will play a key role in managing legal risk and providing commercially focused legal advice to support the business. This is an excellent opportunity to work on complex insurance distribution, regulatory and commercial matters while building strong relationships across Allianz UK and contributing to strategic business objectives.

 

This role will ideally be based in our London office however we are willing to consider other locations for suitable candidates. This is a hybrid working role with the expectation that you attend your home office 2 days per week, however, please note that you will also be required to occasionally attend the London office.

 

Salary Information

 

This role offers a salary in the region of £75,000 to £125,000 per annum with the final salary offer determined by your experience, skills and location. Salary is only one part of our total reward package.

 

About You

 

  • Provide legal and regulatory advice to support Allianz UK and its Commercial Lines business.
  • Identify, manage and report legal and regulatory risks in a timely and effective manner.
  • Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial and insurance distribution agreements.
  • Support broker distribution arrangements, remuneration agreements and strategic commercial partnerships.
  • Advise on regulatory requirements including FCA and PRA rules and wider financial services legislation.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across Legal & Corporate Governance and other assurance functions.
  • Support negotiations with brokers, business partners and other external stakeholders.
  • Represent the Legal team on management forums, projects and business initiatives.
  • Instruct and manage external legal advisers where appropriate, ensuring high quality and cost-effective advice.
  • Contribute to the development of legal awareness across the business by providing guidance, training and practical risk mitigation solutions.
  • Ensure legal agreements, advice and supporting documentation are accurate, clear and enforceable.
  • Maintain up-to-date legal, regulatory and commercial knowledge relevant to Allianz's business activities.

 

Essential Skills

 

  • Qualified solicitor or barrister.
  • Strong knowledge of financial services legislation and regulation, particularly within insurance and reinsurance.
  • Strong understanding of emerging legal and regulatory developments impacting the insurance sector.
  • Experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex commercial contracts and legal agreements.
  • Knowledge of FCA and PRA regulatory frameworks, including Consumer Duty, ICOBS, PROD, CASS, SUP and SYSC requirements.
  • Experience advising on insurance distribution arrangements such as TOBAs, delegated authority agreements, appointed representative agreements, MGA arrangements and co-manufacturing agreements.
  • Understanding of broker remuneration models, broker service agreements and panel arrangements.
  • Knowledge of data protection, competition law, intellectual property, confidentiality and agency law principles.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills with the ability to balance legal risk and commercial objectives.
  • Ability to manage a varied workload spanning operational and strategic legal matters.
  • Experience managing external legal advisers and associated legal spend.
  • Commercially minded with the ability to provide pragmatic, business-focused legal advice.

 

Desirable Skills

 

  • Experience working within an in-house legal team in financial services or insurance.
  • Knowledge of reinsurance arrangements and supporting contractual frameworks.
  • Experience supporting strategic business transformation and change programmes.
  • Experience presenting legal advice to senior stakeholders, committees and governance forums.
  • Responsible Artificial Intelligence usage and awareness of legal considerations relating to AI technologies.
