Role Description
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Product Owner to join our team and play a key role in shaping the future of our product landscape.
You will bring previous product ownership or product management experience, along with the energy and strategic mindset to drive engaging user experiences, strong product ownership and a clear platform focus that supports AZP’s vision and objectives.
As a Senior Product Owner, you will own the overall roadmap for your product journeys or platforms, driving the business change agenda to deliver the outcomes you are accountable for. You will also provide line management and thought leadership to Product Owners in your area, ensuring Scrum teams stay aligned on the same business outcomes and roadmap priorities.
You will be a clear thinker with vision, passion, energy and attention to detail, with a drive to keep learning, improve ways of working and support others to succeed, while being a genuine team player throughout.
The role will be located in Bournemouth, Leeds or London and you will be required to work in the office two days per month.
Salary Information
Pay: Circa £70,000 per year
Pay is based on relevant experience, skills for the role, and location. Salary is only one part of our total reward package.
About You
Roadmap, Vision & Strategic Planning
- Own, develop and communicate the capability roadmap and vision, maintaining the high-level plan and feature catalogue for the capabilities under your remit.
- Continuously communicate the product vision to technical teams and business stakeholders, balancing short-term business outcomes with long-term strategy.
- Maintain a clear view of platform upgrades and feature benefits, aligning them to business requirements and change priorities.
Delivery, Prioritisation & Governance
- Make business priority decisions based on objectives, relative cost and effort, and ensure effective sequencing of delivery across the roadmap.
- Work closely with Heads of Change and project leads so feature requests are understood and supported through effective communication and reporting.
- Ensure capability resource requirements are aligned across the platform for both project delivery and business-as-usual activity, coordinating dependencies through the right governance.
Platform, Release & Product Delivery
- Collaborate with technical teams to define non-functional requirements and support a consistent set of standards across the platform.
- Clearly articulate release definitions, including new features, architecture considerations and, where appropriate, technical debt.
- Maintain oversight of technical enablers and infrastructure sequencing, ensuring the required technical capability is understood, prioritised and supported in the backlog.
Stakeholder Management & Business Outcomes
- Ensure the platform or product supports overall business strategy as well as business-as-usual change activity.
- Make sure initiatives have defined business cases and that outputs are aligned to deliver the required change and business outcomes.
- Measure whether delivered changes achieve the intended outcomes and use these insights to refine future backlog development.
Operational Planning, Risk & Continuous Improvement
- Proactively manage issues, risks and dependencies across the platform, taking action and escalating clearly where needed.
- Secure funding and resources as appropriate, and present the vision and proposed features at each Program Increment planning session.
- Lead the business element of Pre-PI planning, working with stakeholders to define inputs, milestones and high-level objectives for upcoming planning cycles.
Leadership & Team Development
- Build and lead a high-performing product ownership team that is fit for purpose, efficient, effective and focused on delivering quality outcomes.
- Provide consistent leadership across the product or platform area, supporting aligned ways of working, testing approaches and collaboration across teams.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience as a Product Owner (or similar role) delivering technology-driven change
- Strong understanding of Agile methodologies (e.g. Scrum, SAFe, Kanban)
- Experience managing product roadmaps, backlogs and performance metrics
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Ability to translate business needs into clear product strategies
- Experience using tools such as Jira and Confluence
- Strong analytical mindset with a focus on data-driven decision making
Desirable Skills
- Working knowledge of relevant technology platforms.
- Experience managing SLAs with IT and third-party partners.
- Responsible Artificial Intelligence usage with experience using Generative AI tools such as onsite Webchat / Chat Bot systems.
