Medical Claims Team Lead - Medical Assistance & Travel Insurance
KUALA LUMPUR, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, MY
Your clinical skills save lives. Now use them to protect millions more. As Medical Claims Team Lead at Allianz Partners, you'll bring your medical expertise into a role where every decision matters — evaluating emergency medical situations, identifying pre-existing conditions, and ensuring travellers in crisis receive the right care at the right time. This is your opportunity to step beyond the ward or clinic and into a leadership role where your clinical judgment shapes outcomes on a global scale — for Malaysia and Singapore, and across Allianz Partners' worldwide network. This is a full-time, hybrid role based at UOA Centre, KLCC, Kuala Lumpur
What You'll Do
Clinical Assessment & Claims Decision-Making
- Evaluate patient situations and apply clinical judgment to assess emergency medical assistance cases and travel insurance claims for Malaysia and Singapore.
- Identify pre-existing conditions and determine their relevance to claims outcomes in line with policy terms and clinical evidence.
- Act as the primary technical referral point and escalation owner for complex, high-cost, or clinically sensitive cases.
- Coordinate cross-border assistance and provider interactions to ensure quality care and cost control.
- Provide approvals within the claims authority limit; escalate with clear, evidence-based rationale.
- Manage customer feedback, inquiries, and complaints promptly and effectively within designated timelines, providing feasible resolutions through established processes and procedures.
Performance, Quality & Strategy
- Manage SLAs for partners and internal teams — lead the team to consistently meet or exceed agreed targets.
- Identify priorities in the claims function to increase efficiency and improve customer satisfaction.
- Manage claims performance and quality through OFR (Operational Functional Review) and CFR (Claims Functional Review) in collaboration with the Quality Assurance team.
- Own and manage the Claims Operation Strategy Plan actions.
- Be part of the Operations Senior Leadership team to drive the company's strategy.
- Represent Allianz Partners as a Senior Operations Leader in partner relationship meetings.
People & Development
- Coach, oversee, and support 1–2 direct reports; assist with hiring, onboarding, and training execution.
- Promote positive teamwork and collaboration, stepping in to support team members as needed.
- Execute training plans when required and participate in team projects and ad-hoc tasks as assigned.
What You'll Bring
- Minimum Diploma or Degree in a medical-related field — we warmly welcome registered nurses (RN/BN), medical doctors, medical assistants, paramedics, and other allied health professionals to apply.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in clinical practice, emergency or acute care, or a medical claims environment.
- Confident, decisive decision-maker — you're comfortable acting on clinical evidence under pressure and standing behind your assessments.
- Strong clinical judgment with the ability to evaluate patient situations, identify pre-existing conditions, and deliver sound, evidence-based outcomes.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, diagnoses, and treatment protocols.
- Prior team leadership or supervisory experience is an advantage — but not a requirement. If you're a senior clinician ready to take your first step into a formal lead role, we want to hear from you.
- Insurance, travel assistance, or medical claims experience is beneficial but not mandatory — we provide full training on insurance and assistance processes, so your medical background is what matters most.
- Proven written and verbal communication skills in English; Mandarin is a plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Collaborative team player who treats colleagues with care and respect.
- Legal right to work in Malaysia.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted clinical decision support, claims processing tools, or digital health platforms is an advantage.
Nice to Have
- Background in travel insurance or assistance operations.
