In the role of Engineering Underwriter, you’ll be responsible for assessing, pricing, and underwriting complex engineering and technical risks to ensure contract certainty, proper documentation, and adherence to internal risk appetite and guidelines. This role focuses on driving profitable growth for the engineering portfolio by analyzing technical data, structuring policy terms, and building strong relationships with agents, brokers and corporate clients.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced underwriter to ensure service standards, underwriting quality, and business growth objectives are maintained. You will work closely with agents, brokers and internal stakeholders to identify, shape, and secure high-quality opportunities while maintaining underwriting discipline and profitability

 

You'll be responsible for:

  • To underwrite and assess the submission of proposal for insurance in accordance with the Company guidelines and its inherited exposure.
  • To prepare quotations, policy documentation, and endorsements accurately and within established service standards.
  • To determine and discuss with intermediaries the appropriate terms and conditions applicable to risk acceptance.
  • Establish process to effectively monitor work on hand and set priorities to complete tasks within turnaround time.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with brokers, agents, and distribution partners.
  • Negotiate and secure profitable business opportunities while maintaining underwriting discipline.
  • Collaborate closely with Claims, Risk Engineering, Reinsurance, and Operations teams to deliver effective underwriting solutions.
  • Monitor and manage portfolio performance to support profitable growth.
  • Maintain accurate underwriting records and ensure compliance with company policies, underwriting guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support departmental projects, process enhancements, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Deliver expert underwriting guidance to clients and market partners.
  • Support team members across all operations to maintain smooth and efficient departmental workflow.
  • Stay informed of market developments, industry trends, and emerging risks within the Construction sector.
  • Any other duties as and when deemed necessary.

 

Important to your success:

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Diploma qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience in the insurance or reinsurance industry is preferred.
  • AI literacy and digital acumen will be an added advantage.
