About the Job
The Local Software Asset Management (SAM) Manager is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end lifecycle of software assets within the organization. This role ensures compliance with software licensing agreements, optimizes software spend, mitigates license audit risk, and drives governance of software procurement and usage. Acting as the primary point of contact for SAM-related matters locally, the role works closely with IT, Finance, Legal, Procurement, and business stakeholders to maintain an accurate and up-to-date software inventory.
What you do
1. Software Inventory & Lifecycle Management
- Determine licensing requirements for Software and analyze vendor licensing terms
- Document licensing data (in-/outflows), e.g. historic license data, new purchases
- Determine commercial Software license inventory
- Organize technical data collection, collect and document usage data
- Maintain a comprehensive and accurate register of all software assets across the organization, including licenses, versions, entitlements, and deployment data.
- Manage the full software asset lifecycle from procurement and deployment to retirement and disposal.
- Ensure all software installations are authorized, tracked, and compliant with vendor licensing terms.
- Responsible for entitlements in ServiceNow SAM and ADP Tool within the area of responsibility
2. License Compliance & Audit Readiness
- Perform Software compliance management reporting
- Support compliance in area of responsibility
- Analyze license balance, determine current licensing situation, identify licensing deviations (under-/over-licensing)
- Support rectification of licensing deviations
- Monitor software license positions (SLP) and conduct regular effective license position (ELP) calculations to ensure compliance.
- Lead responses to vendor software audits; prepare documentation, evidence packs, and remediation plans as required.
- Identify and remediate compliance gaps in a timely manner, minimizing financial and reputational risk.
3. Procurement & Vendor Management Support
- Collaborate with Procurement and Finance on software purchasing decisions, renewals, and contract negotiations.
- Evaluate software requests and identify opportunities to consolidate, reuse existing entitlements, or reduce spend.
- Maintain up-to-date records of vendor contracts, support agreements, and renewal schedules.
4. SAM Tools & Processes
- Ensuring the implementation of the strategic framework and specifications of the Allianz Technology SAM within the area of responsibility
- Ensuring process efficiency for the area of responsibility
- Automate discovery and reconciliation processes to reduce manual effort and improve data accuracy.
5. Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting
- Operationalize the requirements of Head of ITAM within the area of responsibility
- Assign data requirements to stakeholders (e.g., SPO, external service providers)
- Collaborate with other Global / Local Software Managers
- Generate transparent reporting on consumption per OE/branch, per Service Owner, per Software provider
- Provide regular reporting on license positions, compliance status, cost optimization opportunities, and KPIs to IT leadership and relevant stakeholders.
- Compile license balance; map commercial and technical inventories based on license metrics
- Act as a trusted advisor to business units on software licensing matters, usage rights, and best practices.
- Liaise with global SAM teams or centers of excellence where applicable, ensuring local alignment to global standards.
6. Risk & Governance
- Support risk or M&A Software compliance assessments
- Support SAM control and governance evolvement
- Check pool for unused licenses of Software in GSAM scope
- Identify and escalate software-related compliance risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Ensure software procurement and usage complies with internal policies, security standards, and external regulations.
Contribute to IT risk assessments and internal audit activities related to software assets.
What you bring
- Have 10 years overall working experience in IT environment
- 3+ years of experience in Software Asset Management, IT Asset Management, or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated knowledge of major software vendor licensing models (Microsoft, Adobe, Oracle, SAP, IBM, etc.).
- Hands-on experience with SAM tools such as ServiceNow SAM Pro, , or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of software audit processes and experience managing or supporting vendor audits.
- Proven ability to perform license position calculations and interpret contractual entitlement terms.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical and data management skills.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to convey complex licensing topics to non-technical stakeholders.
Desirable
- ITIL Foundation certification or higher.
- SAM-related certification (e.g., IAITAM CSAM, BSA/ISO 19770 knowledge).
- Experience working in a large enterprise or regulated industry environment.
- Familiarity with cloud licensing models (Microsoft Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, SaaS).
- Experience working with procurement, legal, or finance teams on vendor negotiations.
