Key Responsibilities
- Lead, grow, and mentor a platform engineering team, fostering a culture of technical excellence, high ownership, continuous improvement, and psychological safety.
- Define and drive the platform engineering strategy and roadmap, ensuring alignment with business objectives, product delivery needs, and long-term scalability requirements.
- Own the design, evolution, and operation of the internal developer platform, enabling product engineering teams to ship faster and more reliably through self-service capabilities and reduced cognitive load.
- Establish and continuously raise the bar for platform engineering standards: infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, observability, incident readiness, security posture, and operational excellence.
- Collaborate closely with Architecture, Backend, Security, and Product teams to ensure the platform reliably supports current and future engineering needs across the organisation.
- Own multi-cloud infrastructure strategy and decisions, balancing cost efficiency, resilience, and operational simplicity across production environments.
- Ensure platform reliability and operational excellence through robust incident management practices, SLO/SLA ownership, and a strong on-call culture.
- Contribute to organisation-wide architecture and technology decisions, representing platform engineering concerns and long-term maintainability at the leadership level.
- Balance delivery priorities with sustainable engineering practices, proactive technical debt reduction, and platform health.
- Support the professional growth of platform engineers through coaching, mentorship, structured feedback, and clear career development pathways.
- Help foster a culture of adaptability, cross-team collaboration, and continuous learning as technologies, scale, and organisational needs evolve.
Bring to the Team
- 8+ years of experience in platform, infrastructure, or SRE roles, with a strong technical foundation and systems-thinking mindset across distributed systems and cloud-native architectures.
- Demonstrated experience in technical leadership — as a team lead, engineering manager, or tech lead — with a proven ability to grow and mentor engineers and build high-ownership engineering cultures.
- Experience leading platform migrations and modernization efforts, such as VM to Kubernetes or monolith to microservices, and building or evolving internal developer platforms.
- Multi-cloud production experience (AWS + at least one other), including capacity planning, cost optimization, and vendor management.
- Hands-on experience with modern platform tooling: Kubernetes, IaC (Terraform or equivalent), CI/CD pipelines, observability platforms, and messaging systems such as Kafka.
- A combination of technical depth and pragmatism — able to balance engineering quality, delivery speed, operational reliability, and long-term maintainability.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to navigate technical and organisational complexity and bridge platform and product/engineering leadership.
- Experience in regulated industries such as finance or insurance is a strong plus.
