Role Description
This is an exciting opportunity to join our expert-led Allianz Commercial team as a Construction Underwriter, playing a key role in delivering profitable growth across both new and existing business.
You will support the development of a world-class, multi-niche Insurance & Engineering offering, contributing to ambitious regional growth targets.
Location: This role is based in our London office, please note that this is a hybrid working role with the expectation that you attend the office 2-3 days per week.
Salary Information
Pay: Circa £50,000 per year.
Pay is based on relevant experience, skills for the role, and location. Salary is only one part of our total reward package.
About You
• Underwrite construction risks across both new and existing business to meet growth and profitability targets
• Manage renewal portfolios, ensuring strong retention and customer outcomes
• Assess and price risk in line with Allianz appetite and underwriting strategy
• Build and maintain strong broker and client relationships through regular engagement
• Negotiate terms, conditions, and pricing with brokers to secure sustainable business
• Proactively identify and develop new business opportunities within the market
• Contribute to regional underwriting strategy and key business initiatives
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders including Claims, Operations, and Risk teams
• Represent Allianz positively in the market, attending broker and client meetings
Essential Skills
• Proven experience in construction underwriting, including casualty/liability covers
• Strong ability to underwrite both new and renewal business effectively
• Confident communicator, comfortable engaging with brokers and negotiating outcomes
• Analytical mindset with the ability to assess complex risks and market conditions
• Commercial awareness with a focus on profitable growth and retention
• Self-motivated team player with the ability to support and mentor others
Desirable Skills
• Experience handling or exposure to slip business
• Proactive and driven with a strong focus on personal and professional development
• Ability to take initiative and contribute positively within a team environment
• Responsible Artificial Intelligence usage
