Role Description
The Head of Pricing & Underwriting Broker Non-Standard is a senior management role responsible for steering the strategic direction and operational execution of the Broker Non-Standard portfolio. This role involves leading a team of managers to ensure that pricing and underwriting strategies are robust, commercially effective and compliant with regulatory standards. This role involves regular engagement with senior leadership across the business, necessitating strong communication, stakeholder management and leadership skills.
Location: This role can be based in our London or Chelmsford offices, please note that this is a hybrid working role with the expectation that attend the office 50% of your time.

About You
You will:
- Develop and deliver the strategic vision for the Broker Non-Standard portfolio, aligning pricing and underwriting plans with business objectives.
- Lead, coach and develop a high-performing management team, creating a strong pipeline of future talent.
- Monitor market trends, broker activity, competitor movements and emerging technologies to identify growth opportunities and risks.
- Drive innovation across pricing and underwriting practices to improve capability, performance and customer outcomes.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with brokers, industry bodies and key stakeholders.
- Lead change initiatives, ensuring successful implementation of new processes, systems and ways of working.
- Oversee portfolio pricing and underwriting performance to ensure sustainable profitability and competitive market positioning.
- Ensure underwriting standards, controls and governance frameworks remain robust and compliant.
- Collaborate with Finance teams to develop financial plans, forecast Gross Written Premium (GWP), and support business planning through Anaplan.
- Promote a culture focused on fair customer outcomes, regulatory compliance and operational excellence.
Essential Skills
- Strong leadership experience within pricing, underwriting or portfolio management.
- Significant experience operating within the UK broker insurance market.
- In-depth knowledge of non-standard insurance portfolios and broker distribution models.
- Strong understanding of pricing performance, underwriting disciplines and profitability management.
- Experience managing financial plans, forecasts and performance metrics.
- Knowledge of UK insurance regulation, governance requirements and fair customer outcome principles.
- Ability to interpret complex data and translate insight into commercial actions.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills with experience influencing senior leadership teams.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly.
- Commercial awareness combined with a strong customer focus.
- Proven ability to deliver results through others and effectively manage competing priorities.
Desirable Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Actuarial Science, Business Administration or a related discipline.
- Master's degree or professional insurance qualification such as ACII.
- Experience working with specialist non-standard risks including motorcycles, horseboxes and other niche vehicle portfolios.
- Knowledge of financial modelling, budgeting and cost analysis.
- Experience using Anaplan or comparable financial forecasting tools.
- Strong understanding of claims modelling and portfolio monitoring techniques.
- Experience building strategic partnerships with brokers, industry bodies and external stakeholders.
- Responsible Artificial Intelligence usage.
- Resilience and confidence to constructively challenge decisions and adapt approaches where appropriate.
