Role Description

 

Join Allianz UK as our Head of Technical Underwriting - Motor and lead the strategic and technical direction of its Personal Lines Motor portfolio. This high-impact role involves providing expert underwriting guidance, overseeing risk acceptance, and driving technical leadership across the business. The successful candidate will analyse emerging trends, translate insights into product innovation, and drive the development and implementation of underwriting strategy.

 

With responsibility for product management and technical governance, this role offers the opportunity to shape the future of motor insurance at Allianz through collaboration, innovation, and expert decision-making.

 

This is a hybrid role requiring attendance at either our London, Bournemouth or Birmingham office. (50% per month)

 

Salary Information

 

Pay is based on relevant experience, skills for the role, and location. Salary is only one part of our total reward package.

 

About You

 

As our Head of Technical Underwriting, you’ll:

 

 

  • Full technical responsibility for risk acceptance criteria and terms applied to new and existing customers.
  • Develop and maintain products that are fit for, and attractive to, our target market and offer good value.
  • Ensure full compliance with all relevant governance and regulatory standards, including timely closure of audit actions and appropriate product monitoring and control.
  • To play a key role in the assessment of new underwriters, both at recruitment stage and initial sign off stage and the active development of the existing team.
  • To grant individual underwriting authority, and ensure operation within authority at both individual and smart circle level.
  • To steer projects and strategic activity, assessing impact on our existing underwriting capability and assisting with practical implementation.
  • To attend industry events to keep abreast of underwriting issues and developments
  • Take on a leading role in representing underwriting across the business, wider insurance industry and to customer via media channels and public speaking engagements

 

Essential skills

 

 

  • Substantial underwriting and/or portfolio management experience
  • Knowledge and experience of underwriting rules development, product development and personal lines trading environment
  • Insurance industry knowledge required, and experience of taking part in wider industry discussions preferred
  • Previous senior underwriting position held
  • Previous project management/steering experience preferred
