Risk Underwriter - Surety & Guarantee

Summary of Role: 

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Surety and Guarantee Underwriter to join our team in Canary Wharf, London. This is a multi-faceted role that combines financial credit assessment, documentation accuracy, commercial relationship management, and a strong understanding of both macro and microeconomic factors impacting UK, Irish, and multinational corporates. You will play a key role in driving profitable and sustainable growth in alignment with Allianz Trade Surety & Guarantee strategy. 

Main Tasks:

• Support the management and underwriting of the Surety & Guarantee portfolio in the UK and Ireland.
• Identify opportunities to grow the business, manage existing portfolio accounts, and support broker relationships.
• Analyse individual accounts (transactional, mid-tier, or large/sensitive risks) and propose appropriate underwriting strategies.
• Ensure compliance with KYC, ESG, and underwriting recommendations and approvals.
• Conduct client meetings to assess risks and develop underwriting strategies.
• Represent the Surety team at internal underwriting committees.
• Provide analysis of risk implications for new areas and sector developments.
• Prepare and review internal risk reports and underwriting strategy recommendations.
• Contribute to portfolio reporting and dashboard development.
• Maintain high levels of internal and external customer service.
• Manage and strengthen client and broker relationships.
• Participate in underwriting decisions in line with the Authority Matrix.
• Support the Surety business transformation and growth strategy.

What we are looking for: 

• Strong financial credit assessment skills and attention to detail in documentation.
• A solid understanding of macro/microeconomic factors impacting UK, Irish, and multinational corporates.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with experience in qualitative and quantitative risk analysis.
• Proven experience in client and broker relationship management.
• A proactive and collaborative mindset, with the ability to contribute to business transformation and growth strategies.
• Knowledge of KYC, ESG, and underwriting processes is a plus.
