Specialty Credit Underwriting Manager

Summary of the role

Allianz Trade Specialty Credit Mid Term is seeking a Credit Underwriting Regional Manager with experience in Export Trade Finance &/or Structured Credit in order to work in the deployment and the steering of its credit portfolio. 

This manager will be responsible of a dedicated credit underwriting team, which has to identify, review & underwrite credit opportunities originated either through Specialty Credit Mid Term regional hubs located in London, New York, Singapore and Paris,. This position will also play a key role in the construction and the effective management of Specialty Credit Mid Term portfolio.

He/she will have a strong 10-year + experience as Senior Credit Underwriter in Banks, Trade Credit Insurance, Export Credit Agencies/Multilaterals or in Single-risk Medium Term Credit Insurance Departments (e.g. CPRI market) with preferably a focus on Structured Trade Finance, Infrastructure and/or Project Finance. The position is part of a 20-plus credit team.

Responsibilities:

1. Specialty Expertise Leadership:

• Leads the underwriting of key transactions in various Specialty product expertise

• Builds a robust underwriting framework in his Specialty Mid Term expertise
• Leads the advisory, definition and monitoring of underwriting guidelines in Specialty Mid Term
• Authority Matrix with defined Senior Authority levels
   

2. Team Management & Performance:

• Accountability for a proactive and impactful underwriting service, Right Answer First Time towards the origination and customer relationship side of the Specialty Credit franchise
• Set-up and define in co-decision with the SC MT Credit Director an efficient work organisation for its dedicated regional  hub
• Management of a team of selected SC underwriters from diverse seniority and background and located in the UK Specialty Credit hub  as direct reports, including definition & steering of individual targets and training needs
• In absence of SC Credit director can operate under his/her delegated authority to validate credit limits, or act as deputy in various high level internal and external meetings.

3. Collaborative Leadership:

• Is the key 4-eye expert to be contacted in first instance for underwriting decisions related to his / her Specialty.
• Trains underwriters, shares expertise (eg. Junior, Senior, other departments etc…) in his / her Specialty
• Is empowered and takes ownership for the success of cross-expertise and cross-department projects
• Fosters a collaborative decision making with other Specialty Leads and the Credit Director
  
  

Requirements and skills:

• Qualifications:

• University degree preferably at Masters’ level. Recognised financial analyst qualifications, would be advantageous.
• More than 10 year-experience in Trade Credit Insurance, Banking Industry, or/and Multilaterals or/and ECAs or/and in Single-risk Medium Term Credit Insurance Department (CPRI), preferably with an exposure to Corporates, Infrastructure & Trade Finance.  
• Strong analytical skills (corporate & financial, sectorial, ESG and political risk as well as transactional analysis) & exposure to corporates in a variety of sectors.
• Ability to make credit decisions.
• Proficiency in reviewing and commenting on loan documentation (including complex legal structures).

• Preferred skills:

• Flexibility and ability to work under time constraints and in dynamic and entrepreneurial environment.
• Ability to work in a multicultural environment - Fluent in English.
• Good geopolitical culture including emerging markets.
• Leadership skills, Team spirit and keen to investigate new products/transactions.
