AZ Re Cat Risk Management department purpose is to optimize the Group’s Nat Cat exposure along the entire (re)insurance value chain through technical excellent pricing of natural peril risks and accumulation management.

 

- Assessment of atmospheric and climate change related risks and provide consultancy within AZ Group

- Drive technical excellence ambitions for Allianz Group with regards to atmospheric perils and climate change for primary and reinsurance pricing as well as accumulation management

- Drive the development of Allianz internal CAT models and tools

- Pursue validations and adaptations of market models

- Management of industry, vendor and scientific relationships with focus on atmospheric perils

 

 

Key responsibilities

 

- Peril Expert Atmospheric and Climate Change Risks

- Allianz-wide consulting on atmospheric perils and climate change related topics

- Development and maintenance of hazard and risk layers and tools

- Validation and adaptation of Cat models to reflect present and future climate state

- Point-of-contact for Group Risk, Global Sustainability, Group Communications, Regulatory Affairs and local Allianz entities with respect of atmospheric perils and climate change topics

- Be contact point for discussions with vendors, brokers, consultants, academics and internal stakeholders around atmospheric and climate change related risks

- Industry exchange on risk trends and related open source modeling

- Active contributions to relevant projects of local entities and Allianz group

- Make use of data and AI

 

Qualification

 

- University degree in atmospheric/climate science or other natural science discipline with climate focus

- Very strong mathematical and statistical knowledge

- Advanced programming skills in high-level and scripting languages

- Excellent skills in GIS analytics and tools

- Profound in handling and analysis of large data sets including database technologies and languages

- Fluent in English; German and other languages welcome

 

 

Experience & Key skills

 

- Very good scientific, atmospheric/climate risk specific know-how with at least 5 years of working experience in relevant field, ideally with insurance context (with broker, insurer or reinsurer)

- At least 5 year hands-on experience in developing probabilistic Cat models

- Multi-year experience in validating and adjusting probabilistic cat models used for risk management in insurance and reinsurance

- Network with scientific community and multi-year track record of working with scientific data providers

- Established network with risk model vendors and brokers

- Strong ability to solve complex analytical problems

- Very good communication skills to explain complex topics to all relevant parties including C-level

- Very good presentation skills; competent in giving talks to management

- Ability to represent Allianz atmospheric and climate risk views in talks and media

- Team player in international team
