We are looking for a Global MidCorp Construction Underwriting Lead in Munich

Your Team

You will be part of the Construction Department, reporting directly to the Global Head of Construction MidCorp. Our team is dedicated to fostering alignment on segmentation and harmonization topics across MidCorp and LargeCorp at Allianz Commercial level, ensuring a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

The Impact You Will Have

As a Senior Underwriter, you will play a crucial role in shaping the underwriting strategy within the MidCorp segment. Your expertise will support the underwriting of MidCorp Construction portfolios across regions, promoting growth and profitability. You will manage complex referrals, support portfolio management, and contribute to the development and coaching of experienced staff, including local senior underwriters.

Some of your specific responsibilities could include:

• Analyze portfolio performance to establish risk appetite and underwriting rules that support business strategy.
• Support Operating Entities (OEs) in implementing the global strategy, tailored to local conditions through portfolio steering.
• Contribute to defining criteria for managing CAT (Catastrophe) exposure at both global and local levels.
• Develop a thorough understanding of market specifics by engaging with key stakeholders internally and externally.
• Maintain a frequent presence in different markets to represent the CUO office and oversee the implementation of global projects.
• Monitor Profit & Loss (P&L) to support OEs in defining tactical actions to manage deviations and achieve planned objectives.
• Make underwriting decisions aligned with Line of Business (LoB) functional rules, underwriting authorities, and global strategy.
• Support Allianz Academies by acting as faculty and developing/updating training materials.
• Aid in the development of less experienced underwriters through specific training sessions and global development initiatives.
• Review and update segmentation agreements annually according to market needs, with the assistance of Underwriting Governance.

What You'll Bring to the Role:

• Expertise in underwriting, including portfolio management and risk assessment.
• Strategic orientation and experience in multinational business environments.
• Knowledge of reinsurance practices.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
• Proficiency in project steering.
• Fluency in English.
• Experience in applying artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to improve business processes and decision-making is highly beneficial. 
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Economics, or Mathematics.
