Who will you join?
The Group Data Governance & Architecture department within Allianz SE / Group Technology and Data is providing the foundation for the Data & AI Strategy for Allianz Group, driving the Global Data Program and supporting the data transformation of the Allianz entities around the globe. By joining Group Data Governance & Architecture you will be part of a lively and international team based on 9 nations and diverse backgrounds. In the role of the Data Transformation Officer you will be part of the Group Data Office. You will support the Chief Data Officers (CDOs) and their teams within the Allianz entities in their data transformation. You will be supporting the development and evolution of global data standards and guidelines.
How can you make an impact?
You will:
1. Lead the end-to-end technical delivery of Allianz's four Data Foundation layers: Modern Self-Service Data Platform (Allianz Data Platform / Lakehouse), Federated Data Governance, Data Product Management, and Industrialized AI Integration.
2. Drive the transformation of legacy data landscapes (SAS, Oracle, GDP 1.5) toward modern, cloud-native architectures based on open table formats (Iceberg, Delta) and platforms such as Databricks and Microsoft Fabric.
3. Architect and implement Data Mesh concepts across Operating Entities, enabling federated data ownership while maintaining Group-level governance standards (AFRDATA compliance).
4. Design and deliver scalable Data Product pipelines and self-service capabilities that accelerate AI and (Gen)AI use case deployment across Allianz OEs.
5. Translate Group Data & AI Strategy ambitions into concrete technical roadmaps, delivery plans, and measurable outcomes in close collaboration with CDOs, HoITs, and platform teams.
6. Manage and coordinate distributed delivery teams across multiple locations (on-site, near-shore, offshore), ensuring high-quality execution within budget and timeline.
7. Embed platform-native governance, data quality controls, and security standards into every layer of the Data Foundation from day one — not as an afterthought.
8. Define and track technical KPIs for each foundation layer, enabling transparent reporting to senior stakeholders and steering boards.
9. Act as a hands-on engineering and architecture authority — bridging strategy and execution by staying close to the code, the platforms, and the teams.
What are you made of?
Minimum Qualifications
- University degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Engineering, or a related technical field
- Minimum 8 years of hands-on experience in data engineering, data platform architecture, or data-intensive transformation programs — with at least 3 years in a technical leadership role
- Proven track record of delivering complex, multi-layer data platform transformations in large, regulated enterprises (insurance, financial services, or similar)
- Deep technical expertise in modern data stack components: cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), lakehouse architectures (Databricks, Microsoft Fabric), open table formats (Iceberg, Delta), orchestration (e.g. Kafka/Confluent), and transformation tooling (e.g. dbt)
- Experience with Data Mesh architecture patterns, federated governance models, and data product thinking at scale
- Hands-on experience integrating (Gen)AI capabilities into data pipelines and managing the associated governance and security challenges (e.g. Shadow AI mitigation)
- Strong delivery management skills: budget ownership (10M+ EUR), multi-location team leadership (internals and externals), and provider/partner management
- Fluent in English (C1); German is a strong plus given the Allianz SE / Allianz Technology context
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in the Allianz Group (OE, Allianz Technology, or Allianz Services) is a significant advantage
- Familiarity with AFRDATA (Allianz Functional Rule for Data) compliance requirements and Group Data governance frameworks
- Experience decommissioning legacy data environments (SAS, Oracle, on-prem DWH) in parallel with new platform ramp-up
- Background in Agile/DevOps delivery methods with the ability to coach and upskill teams through transformation
- Systemic thinking and structured problem-solving — able to hold both the technical depth and the strategic altitude simultaneously
- Strong communicator who can translate complex technical architecture decisions into business-relevant language for CDOs, board-level stakeholders, and engineering teams alike
- Self-driven, hands-on mentality with high result orientation and resilience in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
- Experience working in matrixed, multinational organizations with distributed accountability
- Previous experience in insurance or asset management business functions, consulting, digital / tech is a plus
- Experience applying ChatGPT, Generative AI, and Ethical AI solution
