The Product Manager role will sit within the Domestic Motor team in the Technical division and will play a key role in shaping and delivering outcomes aligned with portfolio objectives . The primary purpose of this role is to develop and implement the product strategies, and provide oversight of the end-to-end product lifecycle, including adherence to governance and achievement of portfolio performance.

 

About the role

  • Developing and implementing Product Strategy, incorporating insights from the market, competitors, and customer research, while aligning with the Distribution Strategy and Customer Value Proposition.
  • Monitoring and analysing market and competitor activities, providing insights to support Product Strategy. Obtaining customer research and feedback to ensure our products are delivering sustainable, customer-centric outcomes.
  • Developing and implementing new products or product changes based on analysis, market trends, and customer research. Leading the annual review of policy wordings, including the technical design and intent of policy coverage.
  • Driving the annual review of policy documentation, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal document due diligence policies.
  • Developing and implementing product governance and risk frameworks, including completing regular product reviews, submitting to Product Council, and reporting regularly on product risk metrics. Providing oversight of the end-to-end product lifecycle, including rolling out products across the enterprise and supervising distribution obligations.
  • Defining the risk appetite for the product and portfolio in line with the enterprise risk appetite statement and ensuring adherence. Defining and maintaining the Target Market Determination and ensuring compliance with Product Design and Distribution Obligation requirements.
  • Monitoring and providing analysis and reports on variances from product plans and the underwriting framework, ensuring underperforming products/segments are being reported and appropriate remediation actions are being implemented. Providing input to topics tabled at the Smart Circle forum.
  • Liaising with the pricing team to determine pricing strategies, revising and ensuring adequacy of pricing for designated products/product lines or portfolio. Supporting the implementation of rating tool changes.
  • Developing and implementing the underwriting framework and associated guidelines, undertaking underwriting reviews, and managing the reporting and feedback processes for the designated product/product line.
  • Understanding and anticipating customer needs through an extensive customer network, business relationships, and competitor intelligence.

 

 

About you

  • Demonstrated experience in underwriting/ portfolio management/ pricing, or actuarial roles, along with strong product knowledge within general insurance, is required.
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline supported by relevant insurance industry qualifications and ANZIIF (or equivalent) accreditations.
  • Significant product management, product development, technical analysis and/or underwriting experience for a complex, matrixed financial services/general insurance organisation.
  • Significant experience in the development, launch and ongoing management of a range of products which are both innovative and sophisticated.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of governance requirements and frameworks as well as portfolio sensitive legislation or regulations.
  • Proven analytical and critical thinking abilities to facilitate the evaluation of complex and detailed data in the development and management of a range of insurance products
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of communicating with clarity, impact and influence.
