Role Description

 

Reporting into the Head of Technical Strategy, the role is responsible for implementing the technical claims motor major loss strategy to optimise customer and business outcomes. Providing technical leadership to the Motor Major Loss team and colleagues handling high value claims and maintain overall standards at a level consistent with good practice; including a substantial financial authority which empowers them to advise on the most complex and high value claims within their specialism.

 

Our major loss Motor Strategy Manager manages a small team of senior specialists within our technical claims division. These specialists handle a portfolio of our most complex and high value claims from notification through to settlement. The role operates in accordance with Company and regulatory requirements, providing high standards of customer service and delivering indemnity spend control. The Motor Major Loss Strategy Team will provide support, guidance, and training to less experienced handlers as well as senior technical referral points for claims within appropriate financial authority.

 

Responsible for collaborating on technical training and development for claims experts, working with wider claims teams to share knowledge and experience, and provide technical leadership to the wider business, helping provide insight to improve account performance, as well as undertaking customer claim reviews, tenders and supporting with broker presentations on technical subject matters.

 

The role also requires the individual to work closely with actuarial, underwriting and pricing teams to advise and inform on the performance of Motor Major Loss. Working alongside re-insurance teams and liasing with other Claims Major Loss areas such as Property and Casualty also forms part of this role. 

 

Location

 

This is a location-agnostic role, with preference of working from either our Manchester or London offices however we are open to candidates nationally. This is a hybrid working role with expectation of you attending an office 2 days per week

 

Salary Information

 

Pay: £80k -£94k per year depending on experience.

 

Pay is based on relevant experience, skills for the role, and location. Salary is only one part of our total reward package.

 

About You

 

  • Supporting the `Head of’ with the development of technical claims strategy
  • Ownership for implementation of the technical strategy across claims teams
  • Collaborate with wider stakeholders to optimise strategy execution and benefit.
  • Act as a senior oversight point for technical referrals in line with the Financial Authorities framework.
  • Collaborate with wider stakeholders to optimise visibility of performance.
  • Work in partnership with Fraud strategy to optimise spend and savings.
  • Act as the Line of Business (LoB) technical lead for supplier performance working with procurement.
  • Act as the LoB technical lead for development / execution of Claims Standards.
  • Act as the LoB technical SME for analytics and machine learning development.
  • Deputise for ‘Head of’ at strategic meetings.
  • Owner of specific LoB skills matrices.
  • Lead, inspire, and develop a small team of Technical Strategy Specialists handling major and complex losses.
  • An expert in their area of specialism
  • Full understanding how claims impact on the P&L account on the area of specialism
  • Monitors and develops the technical performance of teams within areas of discipline
  • Oversees the direction of the largest and most complex claims
  • Ensure claims recovery practices meet internal standards, coordinates with legal providers for recovery, and recommends process improvements to reduce risk and error
  • Participates in the Claims Divisions relationship with Allianz SE Munich on Claims matters.
  • To take ownership and drive the delivery of strategic projects and priorities both within team and more widely within the business.
  • Identify trends, risks and opportunities making recommendations on improvement to SLT.  
  • Support business propositions by leading or contribution to customer/broker claim reviews, tenders, and forum presentations.
  • Promote and maintains relationships with Actuaries and Underwriting divisions and their intermediaries on Claims matters.
  • Build and maintain strong links with industry counterparts and lead the industry in ABI and other industry Forum meetings.
  • Oversee the selection and performance of professional service providers relating to their area of specialism.
  • Support the business with all aspects of re-insurance that impact Motor Major Loss claims
  • Liase and advise Pricing and underwriting teams as well as working alongside actuarial colleagues.

 

Essential Skills

  • Excellent technical expertise in relevant LoB (e.g., motor, casualty, property).

  • Experience collaborating with supply chains to deliver improvements.
  • Market-leading technical expertise in the field of specialism, including case law and regulatory/consumer duty knowledge.

  • Extensive knowledge of claims standards and guidance
  • Analytical and problem-solving mindset, with the ability to identify trends and think creatively.
