We are looking for a Senior Underwriter for Financial Lines, based in Tokyo, Japan.
Your Team
Our team is dedicated to providing market-leading Financial Lines underwriting solutions in Japan. We combine technical expertise, sound risk judgment, and deep market insight to support our clients in navigating an increasingly complex risk landscape. Working closely with clients, brokers and business partners, we deliver tailored, solution-oriented outcomes that protect businesses while fostering long-term partnerships built on trust, integrity, and excellence.
The Impact You Will Have
Reporting to the Regional Head of Financial Lines & Cyber in Asia and the Underwriting Division Manager in Japan.
Some of your specific responsibilities could include:
- Lead the underwriting and development of Allianz Commercial's Financial Lines portfolio in Japan, balancing profitable growth with disciplined risk selection.
- Underwrite and manage complex Financial Lines risks, ensuring alignment with underwriting guidelines, risk appetite, and portfolio objectives.
- Negotiate pricing, coverage, terms and conditions with brokers, clients and business partners to deliver sustainable and commercially sound solutions.
- Drive business growth by identifying new opportunities, developing broker networks, and strengthening relationships with clients and distribution partners.
- Take ownership of strategic accounts and actively contribute to sales and business development activities to achieve portfolio growth targets.
- Monitor portfolio performance, market developments, and emerging risks, taking appropriate underwriting actions to optimize results.
- Collaborate with regional and global underwriting teams, as well as internal stakeholders, to deliver consistent and effective client solutions.
- Represent Allianz Commercial in the market and actively promote our Financial Lines proposition through broker, client, and industry engagement.
- Lead and develop a team of underwriters, including a couple of direct reports, by providing effective people management, technical leadership, performance evaluation, and career development support to build a high-performing underwriting team.
What You’ll Bring to the Role
- Minimum 7 years' experience in Financial Lines underwriting.
- Proven track record of profitable portfolio management and business growth.
- Strong knowledge of Financial Lines products and exposures, including D&O, PI, and Cyber.
- Experience building and managing broker and client relationships.
- Strong business development and sales mindset.
- Strong risk assessment, analytical and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work effectively in an international and multicultural environment.
- Fluent Japanese and English language skills.
- The ability to ensure ethical AI practices and stay updated with emerging AI technologies will be key to maintaining a competitive advantage.
