About the role
The Underwriting Manager Mid Corp will be responsible for leading the strategic underwriting of the WA Mid Corporate Workers’ Compensation portfolio, driving market engagement, and achieving sustainable, profitable growth. This role ensures that risks align with AAL Underwriting Framework, meet Loss Control standards, stay within authority limits, and uphold high service standards.
Key Accountabilities:
- Execute Underwriting Strategy: Manage the WA WC Mid Corporate underwriting strategy and business plan to achieve profitable growth through effective risk selection, underwriting, and market analysis.
- Lead Underwriting Teams: Oversee specialist Mid Corporate underwriting teams to deliver high-quality service and capability for complex accounts and processes.
- Team Development and Work Allocation: Ensure equitable work distribution across the team while supporting individual development and growth.
- Portfolio Performance Management: Conduct regular portfolio performance reviews, address potential issues, and implement necessary remediation actions.
- Customer-Centric Approach: Align underwriting practices with customer and broker partner needs, collaborating with stakeholders to enhance customer outcomes and focus on renewal retention and new business adaptability.
- Monitor and Optimise Performance: Track productivity and service standards across key metrics, taking action to meet business objectives and capitalize on market trends.
- Subject Matter Expertise and Alignment: Provide expert advice on operational underwriting, ensuring alignment with divisional objectives and portfolio balance for growth and profitability.
About you
- Proven experience in operational and commercial underwriting leadership with experience in Worker Compensation.
- Strong leadership capability and a passion for recognising and developing talent, fostering high-performing teams, and building robust talent pipelines to secure future organisational success.
- Exceptional ability to interpret data, identify trends, and deliver insightful solutions with critical thinking.
- Expertise in analysing complex information, extracting valuable insights, and evaluating options to make informed decisions.
- Strong organisational ability for effective planning, prioritisation, and managing competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to deliver messages with clarity, impact, and influence.
