Analytics Engineer
We are seeking a talented and experienced Analytics Engineer with Azure Synapse capability to join our dynamic team at Allianz. In this role, you will play a crucial part in designing, developing and maintaining scalable data and analytics infrastructure, while also engineering robust pipelines that support machine learning models, analytics products and business applications. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the efficient collection, transformation, storage and retrieval of data, enabling trusted insight, operational decision-making and production-ready model delivery.
As a trusted expert, you will design and implement reliable ETL/ELT workflows, integrate both real-time and batch data sources, and create secure, well-governed data pipelines, models and products. You will bring the same foundations as a strong data engineer, with additional experience in building and operationalising data pipelines for machine learning models and applications, ensuring they are reliable, reusable, well-tested and ready for downstream consumption.
The key responsibilities of the role include:
- Working with peers and senior colleagues on solutions design activity for items allocated to you in the backlog.
- Developing, implementing, testing and documenting scalable ETL/ELT data pipelines and workflows to efficiently ingest, transform and serve data from various sources for analytics, reporting, machine learning models and applications.
- Working collaboratively with internal customers to deliver high quality fit for purpose solutions.
- Engineering reusable, production-ready data pipelines and feature datasets that support machine learning model training, scoring, monitoring and integration into business applications.
- Implementing data security measures to ensure compliance with data privacy regulations.
- Peer reviewing work of colleagues to ensure delivery of robust solutions and improve your understanding of the code base.
- Collaborating with stakeholders and analysts to understand their data requirements.
- Staying up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in data engineering, analytics engineering and MLOps to drive continuous improvement and innovation.
About You
Experience & Skills:
- Proven work experience as an Analytics Engineer or Data Engineer with either Azure Synapse or Databricks (Spark/PySpark, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog etc).
- Strong SQL and Python (or equivalent language) skills for data manipulation and automation.
- Familiarity with Synapse Workflows and other orchestration tools.
- Knowledge of data modelling methodologies (star schemas, Data Vault).
- Familiarity with medallion architectures, data lakehouse principles and distributed data processing.
- Experience with version control tools (GitHub) and CI/CD pipelines.
- Understanding of data governance, security, and compliance frameworks.
- Experience engineering data pipelines for machine learning model development, deployment, scoring, monitoring or production applications.
- Exposure to MLOps, feature engineering, model lifecycle processes or AI/ML application integration desirable.
- Ideally some knowledge of the UK Insurance Market
