Role Purpose

Reporting to the Regional Commercial Underwriting Director, the Regional Commercial Underwriting Manager (RCUW) plays a critical role in driving the commercial underwriting strategy across APAC for core Short-Term Trade Credit Insurance (STCI).

This role is responsible for implementing the group and regional underwriting framework and rules, ensuring portfolio performance and portfolio steering, and maintaining consistent, high-quality policy standards across the region. Working closely with the local Commercial teams and Group Commercial Underwriting (GCUW), the RCUW acts as both a technical expert and a strategic partner.

The position combines deep underwriting expertise in STCI with a strong commercial focus, supporting business growth, retention, and profitability while ensuring alignment with Group standards and regional consistency.


Key Responsibilities

1. Underwriting Strategy & Portfolio Management

  • Review and assess commercial underwriting cases and requests across APAC markets (ASEAN, Oceania, and Japan)
  • Steer portfolio performance, including rate monitoring and application of technical underwriting models
  • Drive sustainable and profitable portfolio growth while ensuring risk discipline
  • Perform the Underwriting Infrastructure Review for your specific markets

2. Technical Expertise & Business Support

  • Serve as the regional subject matter expert for commercial underwriting
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and support to the commercial teams
  • Support underwriting decisions and approval of policy conditions in line with group principles

3. Product Development & Innovation

  • Support the design, development, and rollout of new products and underwriting solutions
  • Draft policy wordings, clauses, and enhancements to improve the product offering
  • Manage and oversee the Clause Validation process

4. Governance & Harmonization

  • Ensure consistency of product offerings and policy wordings across the region, aligned with Group CUW
  • Maintain and enhance regional Product and market Libraries, including tracking key changes and market-specific variations
  • Balance regional standardization with local market needs

5. Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Act as a key interface between regional, local, and Group underwriting teams
  • Build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders across multiple markets and departments
  • Provide support on regional initiatives and projects, including back-up for RCUW colleagues when required

Key Requirements & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or a related discipline
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in trade credit insurance – commercial underwriting experience in STCI is a strong advantage
  • Proven experience in commercial underwriting or closely related functions
