The Senior Business Analyst (Sr BA) plays a critical role in bridging business and IT by translating business needs into effective, scalable solutions. The role focuses on analyzing and optimizing current-state (as-is) processes, designing future-state (to-be) processes, applying requirements engineering practices, and producing user stories and functional specifications that support successful delivery.
In this role, you shape and translate business needs into practical, usable solutions while considering operational, regulatory, and delivery implications. You also provide informed advice on relevant market developments and help convert them into improvements that strengthen business performance. In summary, the Senior Business Analyst ensures the right problem is addressed, the right solution is defined, and the right stakeholders remain aligned throughout delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect, validate, and manage business requirements for carrier programs and IT initiatives, ensuring traceability from business need to delivered solution.
- Facilitate stakeholder workshops and interviews to refine requirements, resolve ambiguities, and gather business insights for solution design.
- Map and analyze as-is business processes, identify inefficiencies, and propose optimized to-be processes aligned with strategic objectives.
- Translate business needs into clear functional and non-functional specifications that enable accurate solution design, development, and testing.
- Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) by validating that delivered solutions meet documented business requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Act as a bridge between business, IT, and other stakeholders, ensuring effective communication, alignment, and decision support throughout initiatives.
- Advise the business on relevant market, regulatory, and digital developments, and translate them into actionable improvement opportunities that enhance operational effectiveness.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of Business Analysis standards, methods, and ways of working within the team, and provide guidance to less experienced colleagues where needed.
Key Challenges
- Understanding the needs and issues of business users and translating them into concrete and feasible requirements across business domains in P&C and/or Life.
- Working in an international and dynamic environment with multiple stakeholders and tight deadlines.
- Balancing business value, technical feasibility, and delivery constraints in both Agile and traditional delivery contexts.
Your Profile
- You have 6+ years of relevant experience as a Business Analyst.
- You have successfully worked in a complex and corporate environment.
- You have experience within Financial Services, preferably in Insurance.
- You have worked in Agile multidisciplinary teams as well as in more traditional delivery settings.
- You are a strong team player with an Agile mindset and a pragmatic, solution-oriented approach.
Technical Skills
- Requirements management and engineering.
- Process modelling and automation.
- Broad IT knowledge, including IT architecture, data analysis and data management, application design, delivery processes, and UAT support.
- Working knowledge of project delivery methods, Agile practices, and commonly used collaboration and requirements management tools.
- Insurance systems knowledge.
General Skills
- Analytical and critical thinking, problem solving, and decision support.
- Workshop facilitation and leadership.
- Strong business sense, stakeholder management, and communication.
- Project and change management.
- Awareness of digital, data, and AI developments, and the ability to assess their relevance for business processes and solution design.
Education & Certifications
- HBO / WO (Bachelor / Master degree), preferably in IT or a technical field.
- Certification in Business Analysis.
- Certification in Product Ownership or Scrum Master is preferred.
- Local language and Business English proficiency are required.
