Senior Regional Legal Counsel

Position Summary
The Senior Regional Legal Counsel will support the Regional Head of Legal in providing comprehensive legal support across the APAC region. The role will focus on product‑related and corporate legal matters within trade credit insurance (TCI), eCommerce initiatives, cybersecurity, and general commercial advisory. This position requires strong technical legal expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to offer pragmatic, business‑oriented solutions in a dynamic regional environment.
Location: Hong Kong (primary and preferred location). Singapore may be considered; China as a third preference.
Key Responsibilities
Regional Legal Support
- Assist the Regional Head of Legal and Local Legal Contacts in handling a broad spectrum of legal matters throughout the APAC region.
- Manage legal workstreams for regional and organization‑wide initiatives, including new product developments, outsourcing arrangements, and strategic projects.
Business Partnering & Legal Advisory
- Work closely with business stakeholders to deliver practical, risk‑balanced legal advice that supports commercial objectives while ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Work closely with business teams, operational functions, Group legal and local legal contacts to ensure timely, practical, and solutions‑oriented legal support.
- Provide legal assessments and interpretations in response to legislative or regulatory changes across APAC.
- Offer timely legal guidance to compliance, business, and support functions as needed.
Product & Transactional Support
- Support front‑end and underwriting teams in structuring policy coverage to meet policyholder needs in compliance with local regulations.
- Draft, review, and negotiate policy wordings and transactional agreements, including distribution agreements, reinsurance treaties, and related documentation.
- Advise on cross‑border transactions and coordinate with Group Legal on the IIR table and other group‑level requirements.
Claims & Collections
- Assist in reviewing complex claims and collections matters, including providing legal assessments and supporting negotiations where required.
- Support the legal oversight of recovery actions and ensure alignment with internal standards and regional laws.
Internal Policies & Standards
- Support APAC implementation of legal‑owned internal policies, including (but not limited to) the Allianz Trade Antitrust Standard and related codes of conduct.
Corporate Governance
- Oversee the maintenance of corporate governance records and ensure timely and accurate filings with local authorities and internal corporate repositories.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with corporate governance standards and internal policies.
Contracting & General Legal Work
- Conduct general contract reviews and provide legal support for day‑to‑day corporate and commercial matters.
- Manage legal inquiries across Asia Pacific, leveraging strong legal analysis and stakeholder management skills.
External Counsel Management
- Liaise with external counsel where necessary to obtain jurisdiction‑specific or specialized advice, ensuring quality and cost‑effectiveness.
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform other ad hoc tasks or legal projects as required within the remit of the regional legal function.
Job Requirements
- 5-7 PQE qualified in Hong Kong, Singapore, PRC, and/or other APAC countries
- Background in insurance/financial services industry is advantageous
- A mixture of law firm and in-house experience desirable
- Excellent communication skills and stakeholder engagement and with the ability to work independently
Languages (Reading and Writing)
- English
- Chinese (Cantonese and/or Mandarin) desirable but not essential
- Other Asian languages desirable but not essential
