Job purpose / role

The Allianz SE Reinsurance Singapore branch underwrites Life & Health (L&H) reinsurance across the Asia Pacific region. We are seeking a Senior Actuarial Expert to coordinate and further strengthen the branch’s L&H actuarial activities. The role combines hands-on delivery with technical guidance and light local management responsibilities for a small team, focusing on high-quality financial reporting, reserving, effective governance and active stakeholder management.

The role operates within a matrix structure, with functional reporting to the Allianz Re global Head of Actuarial L&H in Munich, Germany, and administrative reporting to the Regional Chief Financial Officer in Singapore. The role oversees all Singapore L&H actuarial team activities and acts as the main local interface with the Certifying Actuary L&H.

Key responsibilities

Financial Reporting

•    Accountable for the overall coordination, review and timely delivery of actuarial reporting for the L&H business of the Singapore branch (IFRS 17 and local GAAP), ensuring high-quality outputs, clear review evidence, alignment with internal guidelines and appropriate escalation of material matters.
•    Act as the local coordination point for the Certifying Actuary workstream, including actuarial inputs, analyses, review evidence and preparation of the Actuarial Report.
•    Support the business planning process by coordinating and providing actuarial projections.
•    Coordinate local engagement with Munich L&H actuarial stakeholders, ensuring priorities, open matters and deliverables are clearly aligned and followed up.
•    Support quarterly closings beyond the Singapore branch scope, including preparation, review, timely delivery and explanation of relevant reporting deliverables.

Reserving & Actuarial Analysis

•    Oversee and enhance actuarial reserving methodologies and processes for the Singapore branch, ensuring alignment with Allianz Re L&H processes in Munich and compliance with Singapore regulatory requirements, professional actuarial standards, and internal standards and guidelines.
•    Review and challenge actuarial analyses prepared by the local actuarial team, including assumptions, experience studies, portfolio analytics and material judgements.
•    Oversee actuarial tools, cashflow models and supporting documentation, ensuring robust model governance and consistency with L&H actuarial approaches across Allianz Re.

Team Leadership & Governance

•    Take on limited dotted-line management responsibilities and lead the local actuarial operating model, including allocation of responsibilities, prioritisation of deliverables and capacity planning, in consultation with the global Head of Actuarial L&H and the local CFO.
•    Coach and guide local actuarial team members, supporting technical development, timely delivery and appropriate performance input.
•    Design, maintain and execute local reserving controls in line with Allianz Re and Group internal standards and guidelines.

Stakeholder Engagement

•    Coordinate with local Singapore Finance leadership, Munich L&H actuarial stakeholders, the Certifying Actuary L&H and Group reporting functions on actuarial reporting and reserving matters.
•    Communicate key actuarial findings, reserving outcomes, material judgements and risks to relevant stakeholders.
•    Engage with external actuarial auditors on reserving, and related audit topics.
•    Build effective working relationships with Underwriting, Accounting, Controlling, Risk and Financial Reporting teams.
•    Support projects and initiatives as they arise.

Experience & Key skills

Experience

•    At least 8 years of L&H insurance or reinsurance experience, including at least 3 years of post-qualification experience, with breadth across reserving, valuation, reporting, assumptions, analytics and governance.
•    Strong IFRS 17 expertise and sound understanding of L&H financials, reserving, pricing and regulatory frameworks.
•    Prior experience leading a team or projects would be advantageous.
•    Knowledge of Singapore regulatory reporting requirements relevant to the Certifying Actuary function, including MAS requirements such as MAS 133, would be highly advantageous.
•     Experience working in a cross-border actuarial environment would also be advantageous.

Technical Skills

•    Demonstrated ability to review and challenge actuarial models, tools and model output.
•    Advanced Excel skills required; VBA or automation experience advantageous.
•    Experience with actuarial modelling platforms, such as RAFM, Prophet / FIS or AXIS, advantageous.
•    Familiarity with programming, data analysis or automation tools, such as Python, R, SQL or SAS, advantageous.
•    Familiarity with AI-enabled analytics, automation or productivity tools, and their responsible use in actuarial reporting and governance, is advantageous.

Competencies

•    Sound actuarial judgement, with the experience to review, challenge and improve work prepared by team members.
•    Strong people leadership skills, with the ability to guide, coach and develop actuarial team members.
•    Ability to manage deliverables, set priorities and maintain delivery discipline across reporting, reserving and governance activities.
