Job Description

The Team Lead – Workmen Injury Compensation (WIC) is responsible for overseeing and managing the WIC claims function. This role involves leading a team of WIC claims specialists, building technical excellence within the WIC claim function, ensuring efficient and effective claims handling processes, and maintaining high standards of customer service and satisfaction.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Claims Assessment: Leverage extensive knowledge and experience in general insurance to thoroughly assess, investigate, and evaluate workman injury compensation claims.
  • Team Management: Lead and mentor a team of claim specialists in WICA claim assessment and operations.
  • Policy Adherence: Ensure compliance with company policies, local regulations, and industry standards in handling and processing workman injury claims.
  • Communication and Coordination: Collaborate effectively with internal teams such as operations, finance, and sales, as well as external stakeholders including regulators, distributors, loss adjusters, investigators, lawyers, medical experts, and claimants to facilitate smooth claim processing and resolution. Act as the primary liaison with the Ministry of Manpower to ensure seamless interactions and data sharing.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Prepare regular reports on claims performance, trends, and outcomes for both internal and external stakeholders. Analyze data to identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings.
  • Performance Management: Set performance targets and KPIs for the WIC claims team, and regularly review and assess performance. Identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as needed. Implement and execute assessment protocols to effectively assess performance of external vendors.
  • Negotiation and Settlement: Skillfully negotiate with stakeholders to achieve fair and equitable settlements for workman injury claims, considering all relevant factors and legal precedents.
  • Continuous Improvement: Enhance claims operations and handling procedures, contributing to the ongoing improvement of claims management protocols by staying informed about industry trends, legal changes, and best practices.
  • Market Knowledge: Stay informed about market trends, regulatory developments, and particularly, MOM WICA legislative changes.
  • Customer Experience: Provide outstanding service to claimants and distributors, ensuring a positive claims experience for customers.

Qualifications and skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Insurance or a related field
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in the general insurance claim sector, with a dedicated focus of at least 10 years of experience in assessing and managing WIC claims.
  • Proven track record in managing and leading claims teams.
  • Strong understanding of WIC products and claims processes.
  • Profound understanding of Singapore regulations and relevant legal frameworks including knowledge of medical claims.
  • Certification in Basic Insurance Concepts and Principles (BCP), Personal General Insurance (PGI) and Commercial General Insurance (ComGl) with Singapore College of Insurance is mandatory.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and implement operational improvements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
