Reporting to the Chief Accounting Lead, Financial Controller, you will lead the development and implementation of accounting policies. You will also monitor compliance and optimise these policies for Allianz Australia. Additionally, you will ensure that appropriate frameworks, controls, and monitoring are in place and provide strategic input into the review of business proposals, and company initiatives.

About the role:

  • Lead technical compliance with IFRS, AASB, NZ IFRS and solvency regimes (APRA, Solvency II) through the delivery of robust, fit‑for‑purpose accounting policies.
  • Anticipate regulatory and accounting change, translating complexity into clear policy positions that ensure commercial decision‑making.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, shaping accounting outcomes that support strategy and securing alignment with Group Accounting and external auditors.
  • Partner with Finance leadership to deliver core control outcomes and enable strategic priorities across the Accounting & Control Tribe.
  • Lead the integration of accounting policy into financial operations, ensuring efficient month‑end close and high‑quality reporting outcomes.
  • Drive continuous improvement in controls, processes and insight, lifting efficiency, transparency and confidence in financial information.
  • Provide technical leadership on strategic initiatives, including due diligence, risk assessments and enterprise control reviews.
  • Lead agile, outcome‑driven delivery by setting clear priorities, managing trade‑offs, removing impediments and building enterprise capability.

About you:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and certification as a Chartered Accountant (CA/CPA).
  • 10+ years experience in a technical accounting policy role with a commercial mindset to interpret accounting standards, analyse complex information, extract meaningful insights and make recommendations.
  • Able to identify, analyse and assess risks inherent to the business and put in place appropriate controls/ actions to manage the risks for future sustainability.
  • Experience in a senior leadership role in a complex, matrixed financial services or general insurance organisation.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement through the effective use of AI, automation and emerging technologies.
