About the role

 

Join our dynamic in‑house legal team, where you will provide legal advice across the Allianz insurance product lifecycle. In this role, you will work closely with the division and collaborate across the broader Allianz business to help enable commercial outcomes while managing legal and regulatory risk.

 

  • Support the delivery of timely, pragmatic and commercial legal advice around insurance product development, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and Allianz’s strategic objectives.
  • Lead and perform detailed policy wording and product documentation reviews, including technical drafting and interpretation of insurance contract terms and customer disclosures, ensuring clarity, compliance and consistency across the product suite.
  • Provide clear, practical solutions focused legal input on day‑to‑day matters impacting Allianz’s products, services, distribution and customer communications, including marketing activities.
  • Support claims teams with advice on complex claim scenarios, policy operation, coverage intent and dispute risk, helping inform decisions.
  • Assist with the legal review and approval of public‑facing documents in accordance with Allianz’s Public Document Due Diligence (PDDD) Policy, within agreed timeframes; ensuring timely, accurate and compliant materials across PDSs, notices, customer communications and marketing content.
  • Negotiate, draft and review legal agreements, ensuring contractual terms reflect commercial intent, regulatory obligations and risk appetite.
  • Assess and clearly communicate legal and regulatory risk, contributing to decision‑making aligned with Allianz’s commercial objectives and risk appetite, with escalation as appropriate.
  • Say informed of regulatory developments and changes in law relevant to Allianz’s businesses and assist in preparing the business to respond to those changes.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams, including Product, Underwriting, Claims, Distribution, Pricing, Risk, Compliance and Marketing, to support commercial outcomes.

 

About you

 

  • Bachelor of Laws or equivalent certification and current legal practicing certificate. Minimum of 8 years post qualification experience.
  • Admitted to practice as a barrister and solicitor of a State or Territory Supreme Court in Australia.
  • Relevant General Insurance legal experience in in-house or in a law firm position. General Insurance product and policy experience is highly regarded.
  • Understanding of relevant regulatory and legislative requirements impacting financial services and insurance, including the Corporations Act, Insurance Contracts Act and GICOP, with exposure to related areas such as privacy and contract law.
  • A commercial focus, with the ability to consider your legal advice in the context of business objectives.
  • Ability to analyse information, identify key legal and regulatory risks, and help inform decision‑making by clearly articulating issues and available options.
  • An eagerness to partner and collaborate effectively with stakeholders across the business to build effective professional relationships and support positive outcomes.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to support negotiations and clearly explain legal issues to non‑legal stakeholders.
  • A passion for leveraging emerging technologies to stay ahead in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
