About the Role


The Senior Legal Counsel, Claims, is a newly created role in the Allianz Legal team. Reporting to the GM Legal- Insurance & Customer, you will be responsible for proving specialist legal support to the Claims team on complex, contentious, General Insurance claims including litigated matters.

 

Key Accountabilities:

 

  • Serve as an internal legal advisor for the Claims team, providing practical guidance on complex claims, coverage disputes, policy interpretation and liability issues.
  • Support the development of resolution strategies for high-value and legally complex claims, advising on quantum, causation and liability to facilitate early settlements and ensure fair outcomes for customers.
  • Draft and review settlement agreements, releases and other legal documents to support efficient and compliant claims resolution.
  • Build strong stakeholder engagement with senior members of the Allianz Claims team and collaborate with the Claims team to asssiat in the timely and fair resultion of claims,  reduce complaint exposure and drive continuous improvement in claims practices.
  • Partner with legal colleagues on regulatory change, litigation strategy and policy development, contributing to team capability through training and precedents.

 

About You

 

  • A Bachelor of Laws or equivalent, current practising certificate, and admission to an Australian State or Territory Supreme Court, with a minimum of 7 years' post-qualification experience.
  • Relevant in-house or law firm experience, with technical expertise in advising on and managing General Insurance claims, including repsobility for litigated matters.
  • Sound knowledge of insurance, contract, corporate and privacy laws, with a strong understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements in General Insurance.
  • Proven ability to build effective relationships with senior stakeholders, influence outcomes and collaborate across the business
  • Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to frame legal advice in context and identify and manage risks to support sustainable business outcomes.
  • Skilled in managing complex negotiations to achieve favourable commercial outcomes and mutual agreement between parties.
