About the role

The primary purpose of this role is to deliver cross-functional legal support to Allianz Australia, encompassing contract negotiation and drafting, regulatory responses, as well as legal advice and recommendations related to emerging technologies, data governance, privacy, cyber and AI.

• Legal Advice: Provide pragmatic and commercially focused legal guidance on, emerging technologies, commercial and procurement contracts, and privacy, ensuring compliance with laws, policies, and industry standards and regulations.
• Contract Management: Draft and negotiate a broad range of complex IT and commercial contracts, including IT supply agreements, SOWs, Partnership Agreements, and SaaS agreements.
• Risk Management: Assist in managing legal, regulatory, and commercial risks related to IT, data, privacy,  and AI in the Financial Services sector.
• Research and Strategic Insights: Conduct legal research on legislative, regulatory, and technology developments in AI, emerging technologies, and privacy. Advise legal leadership on recommended policy adjustments and upcoming changes to laws and regulations pertaining to emerging technologies, cyber, and AI.

About you

• Bachelor of Laws (or equivalent), current Australian legal practicing certificate with a minimum of 7 years PQE.
• Experience in-house or at a large law firm advising on complex IT, privacy, and emerging technologies including a strong working knowledge of the Australian Privacy Principles, data governance, and application of risk-based frameworks
• Proven ability to lead and deliver pragmatic, concise, and commercially focused legal advice. Ability to  identify and analyse complex legal and regulatory risks, and lead strategic negotiations.
• Ability to effectively prioritise based on risk and strategic importance, and manage internal stakeholder relationships to ensure business milestones and project deadlines are delivered.
• Experience in the Insurance or Financial Services industry is advantageous.
• Independent and Collaborative Work: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively with team members and senior stakeholders to build strong professional relationships.
• Experience working in an agile environment or understanding of human-centered design principles would be advantageous.
