The Senior Product Manager role will sit within the Domestic Motor team in the Technical division and will play a key role in shaping and delivering outcomes aligned with portfolio objectives . The primary purpose of this role is to lead the entire lifecycle of high-value product lines or portfolios, from inception or design, risk appetite, business planning, distribution and delivery to achieving financial results, including governance and performance measurement.

 

About the role

  • Leading the development and implementation of new or evolving products and product strategy by incorporating insights from market, competitor, and customer research, and aligning with the distribution strategy and customer value proposition.
  • Driving regular monitoring of market and competitor activities, developing insights to support product strategy, and obtaining customer research and feedback to ensure products are delivering sustainable, customer-centric outcomes.
  • Leading the annual review of policy wordings, including technical design and intent of policy coverage, as well as the annual review of policy documentation, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal document due diligence policy.
  • Leading the development and implementation of product governance and risk frameworks, including completing regular product reviews, submitting to Product Council, and reporting regularly on product risk metrics.
  • Driving oversight of the end-to-end product lifecycle, including rolling out products across the enterprise and supervising distribution obligations.
  • Defining and maintaining the Target Market Determination and ensuring adherence to Product Design and Distribution Obligation requirements.
  • Setting and driving the development, implementation, and maintenance of key performance indicators and relevant measurement indices for the designated product/product lines or portfolios, ensuring compliance at every stage.
  • Providing input into the enterprise annual financial planning process and leading communication of portfolio performance across the enterprise via the Smart Circle forum.
  • Implementing data-driven and automated portfolio management approaches.
  • Revising and ensuring the adequacy of pricing for the designated product/product lines or portfolio, enhancing pricing capability in perils and catastrophe modelling to achieve target growth and profitability, and identifying opportunities for more granular and sophisticated rating tools.
  • Leading the development and implementation of governance and underwriting control frameworks, including setting and implementing underwriting rules and guidelines, and providing compliance assurance for the designated product/product line or portfolio—this includes Post Loss Reviews, Technical Underwriting Reviews, and Underwriting Capability assessment and development.

 

About you

  • Demonstrated underwriting experience in personal lines or commercial motor within general insurance. Strong product knowledge in personal lines; demonstrated ability to assess portfolio performance, identify trends, and implement strategies to enhance profitability and efficiency is highly advantageous.
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and industry accreditations, where necessary.
  • Significant experience in the development and implementation of underwriting guidelines, underwriting licences, internal control and governance, policies and frameworks and leading continuous improvement initiatives to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of governance requirements and frameworks as well as portfolio sensitive legislation and regulations.
  • Proven analytical and critical thinking abilities to facilitate the evaluation of complex and detailed data in the development and management of a range of insurance products.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of communicating with audiences at all levels with clarity, impact and influence.
