To provide market leading service and underwriting quality, Allianz is seeking an SME Underwriting Operations Manager to lead the NSW/ACT SME Underwriting team based in Sydney. This role will report into the National Operations Manager SME, and you will be asked to manage the underwriting team to provide professional underwriting and service standards to internal and external customers, develop and implement required operational action plans to deliver quality service standards, whilst always ensuring adherence to company risk, underwriting and compliance standards.

About the role

  • Manage local underwriting team and contribute to the design of new systems, processes, and procedures with a view of implementing market leading underwriting and service.
  • Develop the state SME proposition by creating growth and retention strategies, and broker engagement.
  • Lead the relationship and be a key point of contact with NSW and ACT based brokers, including regular market facing activity. Champion the relationship between team members and customers (internal and external) to ensure better customer outcomes and a consistent Commercial mindset.
  • Play a Leadership role in the SME Underwriting Operations team collaborating with other Underwriting Operations Managers to ensure achievement of key growth and profitability targets and take ownership for delivery of financial and operational targets for SME products and the wider Commercial team.
  • Manage workflow processes across the team to ensure market leading customer service, improve and maintain positive net promotor score results and drive a customer centric culture.
  • Ensure a fair and equitable distribution of work across a team of Underwriters being mindful of development and growth needs for each team member.
  • Ensure a strong focus on renewal retention and an adaptable, responsive approach to new business.
  • Monitor productivity / service standards reports across renewals, new business, endorsements, and loss control key metrics, and implement actions to achieve business objectives.
  • Facilitate an inclusive and collaborative environment with all Commercial initiatives and programs to build on Allianz People Attributes and to ensure diverse thinking/ best outcomes.

 

About you

  • Experience in an operational management / leadership role in a complex, matrixed general insurance organisation.
  • Ability to positively influence, provide leadership to members of a team, planning and prioritising effectively, organising tasks, and managing competing demands.
  • Experience empowering people to realise their highest potential by recognising and developing individual and team performance and building talent pipelines to safeguard current and future organisational needs.
  • Adept at proactively building and maintaining professional relationships and networks within the NSW and ACT broker market to enhance industry positioning, exchange knowledge and elicit beneficial outcomes.
  • Ability to interpret and analyse complex information, extract meaningful insights, and evaluate options for decision making.
  • Ability to plan and prioritise effectively, organise tasks and manage competing resources and demands.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of communicating with clarity, impact, and influence.
  • A passion for leveraging emerging technologies to stay ahead in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
