Job purpose / role
We offer an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and international team embedded into the global reinsurance organization of one of the largest insurance groups in the world.
The role is set within the Chief Market Office (CMO) of Allianz Re and will report into the Head of CMO Middle Office with a dotted reporting line to the Global Head of Group Ceded Reinsurance.
CMO consists of a team of approximately 50 professionals in different locations of the world who focus on treaty reinsurance business with cedent entities outside of Allianz Group (Third Party cedents). With underwriting and client management teams in Munich, Zurich (Wallisellen), Singapore and the United States, CMO is writing global property & casualty reinsurance and retrocession treaty business as well as global agriculture treaty business. The CMO business model consists of partially retaining this business for Allianz Re's own account and partially operating as a fee business whereby CMO shares risk and return through whole account quota shares with external capacity providers and retains an overrider. CMO Middle Office is responsible for the technical underwriting, treaty and portfolio analytics as well as portfolio management balancing the Third Party assumed and ceded reinsurance portfolio.
To support the CMO business model, we are looking for an experienced reinsurance professional to lead the whole account quota share placements from a CMO perspective and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external capacity providers on an ongoing basis. This includes, for example, working closely with the client management, underwriting and portfolio functions, preparing the annual placement materials, interacting with brokers and other external stakeholders, visiting capacity providers and intermediaries, providing regular portfolio updates as well as liaising with the risk, legal, finance and reporting functions.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, external capacity providers and market intermediaries on an ongoing basis, which includes but is not limited to regular portfolio updates, portfolio performance reporting, calls with and visits to capacity providers and market intermediaries.
- Develop, structure, review, and adjust the retrocession structure that supports the fee based business model.
- Oversee portfolio modelling and negotiate terms and wordings with brokers and capacity providers.
- Ensure that counterparty risk is kept at adequate levels agreeing suitable collateralization structures with capacity providers and Allianz internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with all relevant teams in Allianz Re and the broader Allianz Group as required.
- Support CMO projects and initiatives.
Qualification
- University degree in mathematics, science, insurance or another quantitative discipline.
- 3-5 years work experience in the reinsurance industry as a client manager, treaty underwriter or broker.
- Actuarial qualification would be a plus.
Experience & Key skills
- Min. 3 years treaty reinsurance underwriting experience.
- Highly quantitative mindset, experience with actuarial methods and modelling and strong focus on broader economics of transactions.
- Strong project management skills and proven ability to collaborate across a global organization.
- Enthusiastic, creative, curious to look for solutions and capable to take the lead when necessary.
- In-depth experience in the re-/insurance industry domain.
- Strong communication, facilitation and presentation skills.
- Strategic orientation and high level of analytical skills.
- Performance oriented, self-driven individual with pro-active problem solving skills.
- Capability to interact with key decision makers, also on Executive Board level, and to influence them.
