Job Purpose

The Specialist, A&H Underwriting is responsible for assessing medical and non-medical insurance applications and supporting efficient underwriting operations. The role ensures accurate risk assessment, timely underwriting decisions, and excellent service to customers, agents, and internal stakeholders while adhering to company underwriting guidelines and service standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Underwriting Assessment

  • Review and assess individual medical and non-medical insurance applications in accordance with underwriting guidelines and company policies.
  • Analyse medical reports, application documents, and supporting information to determine appropriate underwriting decisions.
  • Process underwriting cases accurately and within agreed turnaround time (TAT) and Service Level Agreement (SLA) targets.
  • Escalate complex cases to senior underwriters and support the preparation of case documentation when required.
  • Ensure complete and accurate documentation of underwriting decisions within underwriting systems.

2. Customer & Sales Support

  • Respond to underwriting-related enquiries from customers, agents, brokers, and internal stakeholders through telephone, email, and other communication channels.
  • Communicate underwriting requirements and decisions clearly and professionally.
  • Support customer experience initiatives and contribute to service excellence standards.
  • Build positive working relationships with sales channels while maintaining sound underwriting practice.

3. Underwriting Operations Support

  • Assist in preparing underwriting case information and supporting documentation for reinsurance referrals when required.
  • Support policy issuance and underwriting administration activities to ensure operational accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, underwriting standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records and case tracking within designated systems.

4. Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in underwriting process improvement initiatives.
  • Support team projects, system enhancements, and operational efficiency activities.
  • Stay updated on underwriting guidelines, medical developments, and insurance products.
  • Contribute ideas to improve service quality and operational effectiveness.

Must Have

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Medical Technology, Health Sciences, Insurance or a related field.
  • 2 years of experience in Medical Underwriting, Policy Management, or a related insurance function.
  • Professional insurance qualifications (e.g., CII, ACII, LOMA) are an advantage.
  • Experience in Health or Accident & Health insurance underwriting is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of insurance and underwriting principles.

Nice to Have

  • Exposure to reinsurance case management or complex medical case assessment would be beneficial.
  • Ability to interpret medical information and supporting documents.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Familiarity with underwriting or insurance administration systems is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of underwriting guidelines, policy provisions, and insurance operations.
  • Understanding of reinsurance concepts and referral processes.
  • Experience using underwriting or insurance administration systems.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in Thai and English.
  • Any AI-future skills e.g., ChatGPT, or CoPilot365, will be advantage.
