Sr. Specialist - Medical Underwriting

Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Medical Underwriting Specialist who can confidently assess complex medical applications and deliver precise underwriting decisions within SLA and expected turnaround times. This role requires strong analytical judgment, solid medical knowledge, and the ability to communicate underwriting decisions clearly to customers, sales channels, and internal stakeholders. You will also collaborate with reinsurers on jumbo cases and provide technical guidance to other departments.
Key Responsibilities
1) Medical Underwriting
- Independently assess complex medical applications and provide accurate Approve / Not Approve decisions within required turnaround time.
- Review medical records, evaluate risks, and ensure decisions comply with underwriting guidelines and company standards.
- Prepare high‑quality English documentation and provide comments to reinsurers for jumbo or high‑risk cases.
- Provide coaching, technical guidance, and feedback to the Non‑Medical Underwriting team to strengthen overall team capability.
- Serve as a medical underwriting expert to support Group Business and Claims Department.
2) Service Enquiries
- Respond to customer and sales channel enquiries through hotline (1373), email, and other platforms, ensuring clear and professional explanation of underwriting decisions.
- Make direct calls to agents to support Bottom‑up NPS and enhance customer experience.
3) Sales Channel Support
- Partner with sales channels to ensure proper understanding of underwriting principles and requirements.
- Develop communication materials and deliver training sessions on underwriting guidelines.
- Promote strong awareness and alignment of underwriting practices across all distribution partners.
Must Have
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nursing, Medical Technology, Business Sciences, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Medical Underwriting or relevant roles in life or health insurance.
- Strong knowledge of medical underwriting principles and hands-on ability to evaluate complex medical information.
- Solid decision‑making skills with the ability to apply underwriting criteria consistently and accurately.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with medical or health insurance policy terms and underwriting conditions.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills when working with internal teams, reinsurers, and sales channels.
- High attention to detail and strong accuracy in decision-making.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and professionalism in service delivery.
- Experience with AI‑driven tools such as ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot 365.
