As a member of the Global Accounting & Financial Management team, you support the Accounting Policies & Controls team. Reporting to the Head of Accounting Policies & Controls, you help maintain and enhance accounting policies and drive the implementation of new accounting processes, rules, and regulatory requirements.
You act as a central point of contact for key IFRS accounting topics, providing technical guidance, stakeholder communication, and management reporting support, while coordinating related processes and the control framework. You work closely with regional accounting functions and key stakeholders (e.g., Allianz Asset Management GmbH, Allianz SE, and external auditors) and proactively identify opportunities to improve end-to-end processes, controls, and the use of digital- and AI-enabled testing. Project work is an integral component of the role.
Overall, the role helps ensure consistent, compliant, and high-quality financial reporting by combining technical accounting expertise, robust controls oversight, sound analysis, and a continuous improvement mindset.
This role will be based in Frankfurt or Munich.
What you will do
Accounting Policies:
- Strategically monitor processes in light of new or amended IFRS accounting standards to prepare management and the organization well in advance for new requirements, assess potential impacts, and ensure timely adoption and compliance
- Serve as the central hub of information for management and regional accounting functions regarding updates and changes to IFRS accounting and reporting standards, as well as state-of-the-art industry practices; liaise with Allianz Asset Management and the Allianz Group on accounting policy changes
- Provide expert technical accounting support on complex financial products and transactions by identifying and addressing accounting policy issues and opportunities through the preparation of IFRS accounting memos and technical position papers; foster alignment and obtain required approvals from stakeholders such as Allianz Asset Management GmbH, Allianz SE, and external auditors
- Analyse notable events and business transactions and ensure timely reporting to senior management and relevant stakeholders within Allianz Group
Quality Assurance:
- Oversee the assigned areas of the Accounting & Financial Management control framework and perform ongoing assessments of risks and associated controls to support accurate and reliable financial reporting
- Analyze and comment on financial data, identify and report notable transactions, and document critical accounting decisions for quarterly management reporting
- Operate and coordinate selected global processes related to specific accounting topics (e.g., confidential HR-related matters, project expense capitalization); responsibilities include regular coordination and planning, financial analysis, booking guidance, and oversight of appropriate recording and management reporting
- Apply continuous journal entry testing and analytical validation controls using digital tools and artificial intelligence
- Proactively identify, design, and drive end-to-end process improvements across all activities, with a particular focus on onshore/offshore handover points and related validation controls
- Collaborate closely with Risk Management, Internal and External Auditors, the Compliance & Controls team, and outsourcing providers
What you bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field of study; Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
- Ideally 6+ years of relevant professional experience
- In-depth knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and applicable financial laws and regulations
- Strong technology skills, including advanced Excel modeling capabilities (ERP experience such as SAP is a plus)
- Innovative mindset with a strong interest in working with digital and artificial intelligence tools
- Highly analytical and detail-oriented, combining strong business judgment with the ability to analyse complex data sets and communicate conclusions effectively through clear narratives and tables
- Ability to manage tight deadlines, prioritize workloads, and deliver effective results in a fast-paced, multifaceted, ever-growing, and often ambiguous environment; strong multitasking skills are therefore essential
- Proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous operational improvement
- Outstanding interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with proficiency in both English and German, essential for working in an international team
- Experience working with offshore shared service centers is a plus
- Experience with Microsoft PowerBI
