To further enhance our AI-driven equity platform we are seeking an AI Engineer (f/m/d) with strong business acumen and solid IT expertise.

As an AI Engineer, you will play a key role in shaping the next generation of AI capabilities across the equity platform.  You will translate investment and research questions into production-ready AI solutions, owning the full lifecycle of AI use cases - from ideation to production deployment.

The role sits within the Active Engineering Equity team, which acts as a bridge between fundamental and systematic equity portfolio management, as well as research. The team’s mission is to strengthen the equity platform by building scalable, data-driven capabilities that enhance decision-making, improve efficiency, and enable collaboration across teams.

You will work on applied AI problems at the intersection of finance, machine learning, large-scale text analysis, information retrieval, knowledge extraction, and predictive modeling.

This position will be based in Frankfurt.

What you will do

AI Use Case Development & Modeling

  • Design and deploy end-to-end AI solutions (NLP, RAG, ranking, forecasting) across the equity research and portfolio management workflow
  • Develop and evaluate ML, AI and LLM-based models using both structured financial data and unstructured sources (research text, transcripts, alternative data)
  • Identify opportunities where AI can support fundamental research and investment processes, extract insights from large data sets, or enhance systematic signals

Data & Infrastructure Integration

  • Build and maintain scalable feature and inference pipelines supporting AI-driven investment workflows
  • Work closely with Dev/ML Ops, and architecture teams to productionize models, implement CI/CD pipelines, and ensure robust, scalable deployment within the existing data and technology landscape
  • Ensure solutions integrate with existing research tools, data platforms, and portfolio management systems

AI Solution Delivery & Operationalization

  • Build reusable AI components and services that can be leveraged across multiple investment teams and workflows
  • Ensure production readiness through monitoring, documentation, performance tracking, and model governance

Communication & Collaboration

  • Collaborate with major stakeholders like quantitative researchers, data engineers, and portfolio teams to translate investment questions into high-impact technical solutions
  • Help investment teams explore how AI can enhance research workflows and portfolio insights
  • Present model outputs in both machine- and human-digestible formats (APIs, dashboards, reports), enabling use in portfolio decision-making
  • Contribute to fostering a collaborative culture between systematic and fundamental investment teams, helping scale successful ideas across the broader equity platform

What you bring

  • PhD preferred (or advanced degree) in Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative discipline
  • Strong background in Data Science, Quantitative Methods, and Applied Machine Learning
  • Proven experience developing AI/ML and LLM-based solutions
  • Solid Python programming skills and experience working in modern data and cloud environments
  • Experience contributing to production-grade AI/ML workflows (e.g., Databricks, Spark, MLflow), with a good understanding of how models are deployed and monitored in practice
  • Hands-on mentality with a willingness to prototype, iterate, and take ownership from idea to production
  • Deep understanding of data engineering concepts
  • Strong service mindset with a focus on building solutions that benefit the broader investment platform
  • Experience in financial markets, and strong curiosity and willingness to develop deep domain knowledge in equities and asset management
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to operate within an international team and independently in a fast-moving, cross-functional squad environment
  • Knowledge of version control (Git) and CI/CD practices
  • Proficiency in English both written and spoken
  • A passion for writing high-quality, maintainable code

What we offer

  • We empower our employees by ensuring flexible work arrangements that maintain a balance between performance, productivity, career development and personal priorities (e.g., hybrid model/ flexible working hours)
  • Securing your future: Access to company pension/savings plans
