Join us now as a Quantitative Data Engineer (f/m/d) with a strong focus on building and operating data platforms and pipelines for systematic equity investing.
We are operating on a hybrid work week approach with three or more days onsite presence.
The position is based in our Frankfurt office.
What you will do
- Enable the Systematic Equity Team’s data strategy
- Take a proactive role in designing, implementing, and continuously improving data processing workflows for large and complex equity market, fundamental, and alternative data sources in a quantitative equity investment context
- Implement data models and schemas optimized for equity research, and portfolio management
- Ensure high data quality through validation, reconciliation, monitoring, and automated checks, as data accuracy directly impacts portfolio positioning
- Understand investment objectives and partner with portfolio managers, quantitative equity researchers, and system architects to translate them into effective technical solutions
- Design and operate workflows that meet functional and non-functional requirements such as compliance with internal data governance standards, security policies, and regulatory requirements
- Build robust, scalable, production-ready applications, owning the full lifecycle from design through deployment and ongoing operation in a production-grade investment environment
- Support and enable production deployment of research data pipelines into live equity trading or portfolio management systems
- Maintain metadata, data lineage, and technical documentation to ensure transparency, reproducibility, and auditability
What you bring
- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, or a related quantitative discipline
- 4+ years of professional, hands-on experience in data engineering, quantitative systems development, or a closely related field, ideally within systematic equity investing or asset management
- Proficiency in Python, R, SparkSQL, (T-)SQL
- Professional experience with cloud solutions, data warehousing and data lakes, in particular Databricks and Azure Data Lake
- Strong economic intuition combined with a genuine passion for quantitative investing
- Familiarity with financial instruments and market data vendors
- Experience with time series and panel data
- Knowledge of version control (Git) and CI/CD practices
- Initiative-driven, hands-on, and ownership-oriented, with a strong focus on continuous improvement of data quality, performance, and code standards; organized, analytical, and detail-oriented
- Ability to work within a dynamic international team and independently
- Proficiency in English both written and spoken, proficiency in German is a plus
- A passion for good quality code
