The Team Lead / Product Owner is the central leadership role within the future Finance Data Platform team and is accountable for the end-to-end ownership of finance-related data products and reporting enablement capabilities. The role sits at the intersection of Finance, Data, and Technology and ensures that business requirements are translated into scalable, stable, and fit-for-purpose data solutions.

This role is critical for the successful transition from a legacy, often highly customized SAP BW environment to a more sustainable, governed, and modernized target landscape. The individual will act as the primary bridge between business stakeholders—such as FP&A, Accounting, and Controlling—and technical delivery resources, including BW experts, data engineers, and run specialists.

The Team Lead / Product Owner is expected to shape priorities, define and manage the delivery backlog, guide the team through remediation and transformation activities, and ensure that all work contributes to tangible business outcomes, such as improved reporting quality, reduced complexity, enhanced time-to-delivery, and stronger operational ownership. The role carries significant impact, as the quality of this hire will strongly influence the effectiveness, focus, and cohesion of the entire team.

The position requires a balanced profile that combines finance process understanding, strong stakeholder management, technology fluency, and practical delivery leadership. It is neither a purely technical nor purely business role. It requires someone who can operate credibly in both domains and make informed trade-offs between business value, technical feasibility, timing, and risk.

What you will do

  • Own end-to-end product and delivery responsibility for finance data products, reporting enablers, and related platform capabilities within scope.
  • Translate business demand into a clear, prioritized, and manageable product backlog aligned with finance priorities, regulatory requirements, and transformation milestones.
  • Serve as the primary interface between Finance stakeholders and technical delivery teams, ensuring that requirements are understood, challenged where necessary, and translated into implementable solutions.
  • Lead planning and prioritization across remediation, simplification, enhancement, migration, and operational stabilization activities.
  • Drive the simplification of the current reporting and data landscape by reducing unnecessary complexity, duplicative logic, and non-value-adding legacy structures.
  • Ensure that business requirements are framed with a clear understanding of downstream data implications, source dependencies, reporting usage, and operational impact.
  • Coordinate the work of internal and external resources across design, development, testing, transition, and run phases.
  • Establish clear ways of working, governance, roles, and delivery routines for the team, including backlog reviews, prioritization cycles, issue tracking, and stakeholder updates.
  • Make trade-off decisions between speed, scope, quality, and sustainability while ensuring that critical reporting needs and control requirements are protected.
  • Support the migration and transformation agenda by ensuring business ownership of requirements, readiness of delivery teams, and alignment with the broader finance technology roadmap.
  • Work closely with architecture and technical experts to ensure that future-state solutions are scalable, supportable, and aligned with target platform principles.
  • Ensure that data quality, controls, and operational resilience are adequately considered in all major changes.
  • Act as an escalation point for delivery blockers, cross-functional conflicts, and priority decisions.
  • Build strong relationships with key business stakeholders to increase trust, adoption, and the perceived value of the future platform team.
  • Contribute to workforce planning, capability build-up, and role shaping for the broader team.

Expected scope and impact of the role:

This role has high strategic and operational impact. A strong hire will create alignment between business and IT, increase delivery effectiveness, improve prioritization discipline, and accelerate the transition toward a simplified and future-ready finance data platform.

What you bring

  • University degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, Computer Science, Finance, Accounting, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive professional experience in finance technology, finance data platforms, SAP-based reporting environments, or large-scale finance transformation programs.
  • Proven experience in roles such as Product Owner, Team Lead, Delivery Lead, Functional Lead, Program Workstream Lead, or similar positions combining business and technology accountability.
  • Strong understanding of finance processes and reporting requirements, ideally across FP&A, Accounting, Controlling, management reporting, and data provisioning for finance use cases.
  • Solid understanding of SAP-centric finance data landscapes, ideally including SAP BW, BW/4HANA, SAP S/4HANA, extractors, interfaces, and modern target components such as Datasphere or similar data platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into delivery-ready epics, user stories, functional concepts, and prioritization decisions.
  • Experience with backlog management, delivery governance, planning cycles, milestone tracking, and structured issue resolution.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to engage credibly with senior business stakeholders, architects, developers, and operations teams.
  • Ability to challenge requirements constructively and distinguish between genuine business needs, legacy habits, technical constraints, and political preferences.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual thinking, including the ability to understand process flows, data lineage, dependencies, control points, and organizational implications.
  • Good understanding of data governance, data quality, controls, and operational ownership principles in a finance environment.
  • Experience working in complex organizational settings with multiple stakeholders, external vendors, legacy systems, and transformation pressures.
  • Strong leadership capabilities, including team coordination, decision-making, conflict resolution, and the ability to create clarity under uncertainty.
  • Ability to balance strategic direction with hands-on delivery steering.
  • Familiarity with agile delivery principles, product-based operating models, and cross-functional team collaboration.
  • High level of personal accountability, resilience, and delivery focus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; German is an advantage, depending on the stakeholder landscape.
  • Experience in asset management, insurance, banking, or similarly regulated finance environments is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Experience with transition scenarios, insourcing, vendor handovers, or operating model redesign is a strong advantage.
  • Ability to understand both business value and technical debt, and to make practical prioritization decisions accordingly.
  • Experience with Cloud technology, Big Data, Data Management, Data Modelling, Data Warehousing
