What you do:
Leading the sourcing, due diligence and execution of new investment opportunities and monitoring of in-force alternative asset strategies through the following activities: (i) develop new relationships and build upon existing key strategic asset manager and fund manager relationships across private and alternative debt strategies for the Allianz Life general account portfolio to fulfill growth and income goals consistent with asset allocation targets; (ii) lead and coordinate all aspects of comprehensive due diligence and document review for new strategies, including collaborating with AIM and Allianz Life expert teams across accounting, tax, legal, risk and operations functions; (iii) conduct deep-dives and periodic reviews of alternatives portfolio to assess performance, changes in risk profile, collateral composition and macro/regulatory trends; (iv) oversee asset manager selection and performance monitoring across relevant KPIs, with particular focus on yield enhancing strategies; (v) coach and mentor junior professionals on the team; (vi) drive the Alladin eFront data quality, performance monitoring, and enhanced look-through granularity with particular focus on private debt funds as a key component of the overall Alternative Assets portfolio within the Allianz Life general account. You will report to the AIM SVP – Head of Capital Markets & Sourcing.
- Lead sourcing, due diligence, execution and monitoring of alternative assets as part of the broader Allianz Life general accounts with a focus on private debt (direct senior lending, asset-based finance, commercial mortgage funds, and opportunistic credit) with the perspective of relative value, capital efficiency and risk assessment for insurance balance sheets.
- Conduct deep dives focused on fund collateral composition, credit subordination, stress testing, ratings migration trends, payment waterfalls and capital consumption under RBC and S&P capital models.
- Oversee periodic fund reporting across relevant performance metrics; support the preparation and sharing of investment narratives within AIM and external partners in collaboration with other investment management functions.
- Collaborate with Head of Asset Manager Partnerships on asset manager selection and oversight of rated note and private fund managers for the Allianz Life general account portfolio in collaboration with AIM and global colleagues.
- Collaborate with portfolio allocators on investment recommendations within alternative assets sub-sectors with view on SAA and portfolio fit, capital consumption, liquidity, risk profile and excess returns.
- Champion the Aladdin eFront worksteam for enhanced data and analytics, look-thru granularity for the alternatives portfolio with emphasis on MML direct lending and other private debt funds.
- Support team and mentor junior professionals on manager selection, due diligence, legal document review and execution, on-going lifecycle monitoring for new strategies.
- Utilization of artificial intelligence tools and resources (e.g. generative AI) to support document review, due diligence and investment research needs.
What you bring:
- 8+ years of relevant work experience at insurance company, bank or asset manager with focus on private debt and alternative assets in client facing capacity.
- Strong leadership and excellent verbal and written communication skills (story-telling ability with market and portfolio data).
- Investment systems experience for alternative assets modeling (Excel, Bloomberg, Aladdin and eFront, etc.)
- Four-year degree required: Accounting, Finance, Mathematics, Economics or related technical field
- You must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring immigration sponsorship now or in the future. This includes holders of H-1B, H4, L-1, L-2, TN, OPT, CPT, and other nonimmigrant visas.
Job posting range: $114,500 - $221,000
Note the job posting range is exclusive of company benefits or other compensation. This role is also eligible for an annual incentive program. If you are hired, your final base salary will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, experience, skills, competencies, and/or education. In addition to those factors, we will also consider internal equity of our current employees. Please keep in mind that the range provided is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at or near the maximum of the range would not be typical to allow for future and continued salary growth.
