Position overview

The Director of Ops Modernization Delivery is a newly created role responsible for the end-to-end delivery accountability of the enterprise Operations Modernization portfolio. This is a dedicated, domain-owning Director who ensures execution velocity, delivery governance, and clear DRI (Directly Responsible Individual) accountability across all initiatives in the ops modernization roadmap.

Unlike a traditional program manager, this role operates as an engineering-adjacent delivery leader and deeply embedded in the technical teams, removing blockers at pace, and ensuring the single prioritized backlog is executed with rigor and focus. This role reports directly to the Head of Digital & Ops Modernization and partners closely with the Senior Director of Web Modernization, the Integration & Platform, and Architecture domain leads.

What you do

Ops Modernization portfolio delivery

  • Own end-to-end delivery accountability for the multi-year Operations Modernization Roadmap, ensuring initiatives are sequenced, resourced, and executed on plan
  • Serve as the single DRI for ops modernization delivery outcomes; velocity, quality, and governance
  • Drive execution across cross-functional teams including engineering, operations, and third-party vendors, removing blockers and escalating risks before they impact delivery
  • Establish and maintain a prioritized delivery backlog aligned to corporate goals, financial product launches, and operational efficiency targets
  • Lead critical delivery discussions across organizational lines, resolving impediments and aligning competing priorities

Delivery governance & standards

  • Establish and enforce delivery standards, governance frameworks, and best practices across all ops modernization initiatives
  • Implement and maintain delivery metrics, including DORA metrics, cycle time, and business KPIs as active feedback loops, not just reporting artifacts
  • Conduct regular delivery reviews with leadership, translating metrics into clear narratives on what is working, what is not, and what actions are being taken
  • Ensure initiatives follow defined standards for architecture review, testing, and release management
  • Govern internal engineering efforts including DevTools, Rules Engine, and automation tooling ensuring each has a clear DRI, backlog, and delivery cadence

Technology modernization execution

  • Lead delivery of legacy system decommissioning initiatives, sequencing migration work to minimize business disruption
  • Partner with Integration & Platform teams to drive AWS cloud-native adoption and infrastructure uplift on schedule
  • Oversee UiPath and document automation delivery ensuring throughput, reliability, and exception handling meet operational SLAs
  • Coordinate with enterprise architects and the Architecture domain to ensure modernization work is coherent with the broader technology strategy

Stakeholder & organizational alignment

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with senior business and technology leaders to align delivery priorities with corporate strategy
  • Communicate program status, risks, and escalations clearly and proactively to the Head of Digital & Ops Modernization and executive stakeholders
  • Act as a change agent facilitating adoption of new delivery models, including the full-stack engineering model under the SDM Lighthouse initiative
  • Partner with the Head of HR and talent leaders on engineering team structure, role leveling, and staffing for the ops modernization portfolio

People & culture

  • Foster a high-accountability, engineering-culture-first delivery environment where teams move with speed and quality
  • Identify, coach, and develop delivery leadership talent within the team
  • Partner with engineering managers to ensure team health, engagement, and professional development

What you bring

Required

  • 11+ years of experience leading and directing large-scale IT solution delivery and transformation programs
  • Demonstrated track record of owning a delivery portfolio with full accountability for timelines, quality, and outcomes, not just reporting on them
  • Deep experience with agile delivery at scale; SAFe, LeSS, or equivalent; can operate at both the program and team level
  • Proven ability to drive execution in a matrixed organization, influencing without direct authority and aligning cross-functional teams
  • Experience with legacy modernization, cloud migration (AWS preferred), and decommissioning programs
  • Fluency in delivery metrics; DORA metrics, cycle time, lead time, deployment frequency, and MTTR — and how to use them to improve team performance
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or related discipline

Preferred

  • Experience in insurance or financial services, including familiarity with annuity products (FIA, RILA, Life)
  • Hands-on experience with process automation platforms (UiPath or equivalent IDP tools)
  • Familiarity with SFDC CRM delivery and third-party integration programs
  • Experience operating as a delivery lead alongside full-stack engineering teams transitioning from siloed discipline models
  • PMP, SAFe Program Consultant (SPC), or equivalent certification
