What you do:

The Principal Platform Engineer will be a strategic and technical leader driving Allianz Life’s AI and Analytics capabilities on the Azure platform. In this pivotal role, you’ll combine hands-on engineering expertise with architectural vision to design, build, and manage scalable cloud infrastructure that powers advanced analytics and AI solutions. You’ll help define and execute the platform architecture with a focus on operational excellence, security, and performance. Collaboration will be key, as you partner closely with IT, data science, analytics engineering, and vendor teams to operate a robust platform that accelerates innovation and business value.

 

Platform Strategy & Architecture (30%)

  • Help define and evolve the architectural vision for the AI & Analytics platform on Azure, ensuring alignment with enterprise data strategy and business goals.
  • Help lead the design and implementation of scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud-native solutions.
  • Help deliver on the platform roadmap, including service selection, integration patterns, and environment management.

Engineering & Operations (30%)

  • Oversee the development, deployment, and maintenance of platform components including data pipelines, model hosting environments, and monitoring frameworks.
  • Manage the platform’s development and test environments, including data provisioning, masking, and access controls.
  • Ensure high availability, performance, and observability of platform services through proactive monitoring and incident response.
  • Utilization of artificial intelligence tools and resources (e.g. generative AI)

Collaboration & Governance (30%)

  • Partner with IT, data science, and analytics engineering teams to support end-to-end solution delivery.
  • Provide architectural oversight and guidance across the SDLC, including CI/CD, release management, and environment promotion.
  • Manage vendor relationships and coordinate production support activities with internal and external stakeholders.

Innovation & Enablement (10%)

  • Evaluate emerging Azure and Databricks services and AI/ML capabilities to drive innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to platform governance, including data ethics, compliance, and security best practices.
  • Mentor technical teams and promote architectural standards and reusable patterns.

 

What you bring:

  • 6+ years of experience in cloud and data engineering.
  • Experience deploying infrastructure as code with Terraform.
  • Experience working with Azure services such as Azure Machine Learning, AI Foundry, Data Factory, Synapse, Key Vault, and Monitor.
  • Experience working with Databricks (Lakehouse architecture, Spark, Unity Catalog).
  • Experience with MLOps, DevOps, and SDLC practices in a regulated enterprise environment.
  • Experience with infrastructure, networking, and security.
  • Understanding of the infrastructure required to run LLM and other GenAI-based AI Applications as well as traditional ML Ops & data pipelines.
  • Experience working in multi-environment platforms (dev/test/prod) and supporting AI/analytics workloads.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Job posting range $100,000 - $167,000  

Note the job posting range is exclusive of company benefits or other compensation. This role is also eligible for an annual incentive program. If you are hired, your final base salary will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, experience, skills, competencies, and/or education. In addition to those factors, we will also consider internal equity of our current employees. Please keep in mind that the range provided is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at or near the maximum of the range would not be typical to allow for future and continued salary growth.
